Ersatz M10 1/35 Dragon model tank

Im thinking of doing a WIP here so I get feedback and opinions as Im going with this one. This is my first tank since I built an Abrahams?(not sure of the name) tank made by Monogram in the 80’s…

This is were I am right now…

See you in the next posts![:D]

That’s the Panther, right? A funny subject but hey go for it.

Yeah a disguised Panther to make it look like the M10…those crazy germans!

We have had a couple of these built recently. Those newer Dragon panther kits are a dream. I have built a Panther G and Jagdpanther in the past year and my only regret is wasting money on AM for them. I still need to get this kit though. Will be watching this one.

Enjoy,as Bish says, those Dragon Panthers build up nice, and the American markings will make it diffrent.

It seems to me that you have been playing with ideas about this build for a few months now, Joe. It’s always fun to see how someone’s vision evolve from idea to reality, particularly when they come from an imaginative and resourceful builder such as yourself. Looking forward to seeing how things progress!

Thanks for the kind comments guys!

And now, more wheels!!

Its a wonderfully made kit. The parts fit extremely well and the detail is just excellent.

I did one on here a few years ago. FSM bought the article, and I’m still waiting fr it to be published. It builds up pretty straightforwardly. You may want to leave the turret side armor loose until after you paint it. It is tough to get the paint behind those if you glue them on. That’s what I did.

You can check out my build and finishing blog below if you’re interested. Might give you some ideas.

M10 Panther

Been wanting one of these kits so I’ll be keeping an eye on this build.

Definitely goes under something “different” from the usual topics. Should be fun to watch built up.

These parts were tricky to figure out. The instructions are very goo but it takes time ti decipher it.

They will not be seen, right? I cleaned each one nevertheless. Im not sure of what paint to use here. Would it be olive drab, or just black…

ye, those are tricky to figure out. To be honest, they are a bit OTT and are not even needed unless you showing the vehicle completely open. But I did ad all of them on my Jagdpanther, but I didn’t spend any time painting them.

Probably primer red. Seems like a good add to the spares box for some other more useful time.

Don’t even worry about those. As Bish said, unless you’re going to keep hatches open and are are honestly worried about what some judge may say in a contest, paint the whole interior black, and you’ll be fine.

Thanks guys!

Joe: I agree with the others — what I’ve found is my momentum for any project is limited. I would DEFINITELY not spend time cleaning up those torsion rods or adding a single drop of paint to them. I’m building the same kit as a simple diversion from some extremely complex builds.

You don’t want to have your project stall out b/c you’ve gotten bored with it b/c you spent too much of your free modeling time on bits that don’t matter. I’d say spend time to ensure that the turret shell is correctly aligned. That’s going to take lots of energy.

I will that part alone.

Just primered the first parts. The primer color is very close to olive drab.

Next is installing all those wheels…still a lot to do!

Made some progress in the paint department. Thought of going airbrush but decided on the hairy stick itself. I think this would give a good basecoat for later shading with the airbrush, gloss coat, washes, clear matte coat, etc, etc…

Looks brand new!

Think it look decent for hand brushing! [:)]

Hey Joe: May I make a suggestion? Preview the instructions to avoid adding primer to parts that will be glued to other parts. I’m thinking of the sponson floors (parts C48 & C49). Personally, I’m holding off on primering until the entire model is built – except for the inside surfaces of the mock turret shell.

Since the kit doesn’t come with any interior other than the gun breech I didn’t paint the torsion bars on mine either. Just closed all the hatches.

Roy is right, you’ll have to scrape some paint off to get a good cement bond. Not a big issue but a little more work for you.
