Sorry if this is old stuff, but haven’t really built too many cars since I was a kid, mostly do modern jets, do I have a few questions.
I’d like to have the same level of detail on car models as I do on my jets, so the first thing that comes to mind are ignition wires. I can use a pin vise to drill holes in the engine block where the spark plugs should be and glue in the end of the “wire” but then there is the distributer end. On 1/24 and 1/25 cars, that distributer cap is awfully small to drill nine holes in, even with a pin vise. Is that the only way of doing it?
While we’re on the subject. I’ve seen some highly detailed carbs on models. I know there are very talented folks out there, but I can’t believe they actually carve the venturies and jets by hand. Are there any aftermarket resin replacements for these items? Naturally Holley double pumpers/dominators come to mind.
From my experience, nine holes and pin vise is the way to go, however, another plan is to drill one larger hole in the center and put all the wires in there. Some of the aftermarket products use exactly this method. In a large measure, it depends upon where the distributor is located. In some cases, the distributor will never be seen. Obviously, go for the large hole. Otherwise, get out the pin vise, the magifier, the tweezers and take your time.

Someone was talking about these great resin Holley carbs they had gotten recently on another forum. Several of the others there had used them and liked them also. Soon as I can find out who made them I’ll get back to you here.
Also, you can buy pre-wired distributor caps but I don’t have a link to those either at the moment [:(] but I know they’re out there.

As I haven’t ordered any of this stuff, (YET), all I can say is that most of the aircraft detail sets do some with instructions, these would depend on the part you order. There’s really only one way to put the carb on the manifold! That being said, again speaking from my aircraft experience, if you’re going into that level of detail, a lot of your info is going to come from the real thing. Cars are easier to find than jets, you can go to local speed shops and find out where the shows are, or just get a hot rod mag or two, and that will show you how the real ones look, and so, where the atermarket parts go.
