End of Battlestar Galactica

I was watching G4 the other day and they were saying that the 4th season of Battlestar Galactica will be it’s last, based on the comments from the producers…

It wouldn’t surprise me in the least. ScFi has really started to drop their programming over the last few years. They’ve canceled SG1, their schedule is really strange in how it splits the season into 2 parts with many months between. It just really is kinda dissapointing that the “Science Fiction” channel has moved away from Science Fiction and shows more Horror and Fantasy.

Stargate was cancelled by the studio. As to BSG, after last season, maybe it’s best. But leave it to the exec’s at the parent company(NBC) to rule and we know how well they do anyway

Heard, from writers producers?, that it was planned on only going for so many years and that the story is about finished.

This is a storyline that I honestly don’t want to go on for ever and ever and ever the way some have. Babylon5 ran for five years to its’ ultimate conclusion and was (mostly) great during the run, but others, Xfiles in particular, lost thier way after season 2.

I love the show & own all of them released on DVD so far, so don’t get me wrong - but I don’t want a series of this calibre to lose its way and be remembered as mediocre in the end.

John you are right on the money with the odd split. Who knows what goes on being the bastard stepchild of NBC with hand-me-down programming after the network airs it (Heroes lately).

I remember when SciFi channel WAS just that, I watched the little clock at the lower center of the screen on my satellite dish tuned to that transponder channel (back in the day with a 23 foot dish!) for almost a year until it ran to 00:00:00 time and began broadcasting. That was cool to see a network come to life! But…now…it is much much different.

Kind of like MTV. Where is the music in that? Oh well, off to watch Ghost Hunters

David

I’ve just gotten back into the show after a 2 year break. Its gonna go away now?! Oh well, I guess I can’t be too upset. It ran for two years longer than the original did and I’ve still got a lot of catching up to do.

Jon

Yea, It’s just kinda disheartening to see good SciFi with good writing and story plot go away. Like was said earlier about B5. Great show. Too bad it had to jump through so many networks on it’s way and didn’t get the stability to be written exactly how it was intended.

Same with Stargate, starting off on the Showtime movie network years ago, then being more or less stranded for a while until USA network/Scifi channel picked it up, reinvigorated it, but then began the slow spiral it has experienced the last few seasons. I stopped watching altogether about the time Atlantis aired. With Ben Browder and Claudia Black being avaialable from Farscape ( I WANT MY FARSCAPE dammit!) I really hoped it would give the show a new infusion of blood and interest but it has done nothing for me, I try to watch when I can but just cannot get into the episodes like I used to.

At least I will have all the DVD’s from BSG!

Hi Rossjr. Yes I agree with you that BSG is having its final season next year with around 20 episodes. They are definitely closing the story on this one. If the producers will make this the final leg of Galactica’s quest in finding Earth, I just hope they will come up with a great story to bring closure to a lot of issues present in the series in order to make the series very memorable; unlike Galactica 1980.

You know, thinking back over the years, other than the Star Trek series which were run into the ground by the producers, can anyone remember a SciFi series that actually had a good ending?

Have heard there is also a movie in the works dealing with the time-period Adm. Cain was around. Also have heard romers of another movie in the works.

Think Sci-fi series can be good, but for the most part have a niche audience that TV exec don’t know how to deal with. Although Star Trek:TNG and DS9 did last for a long time.

I really don’t care along the series is as long as it is well written. I am just concerned that they have too many loose ends to tie up…

As for the movie, while I really love what they have done with the cast and characters, I really think they screwed the pooch with Adm. Cain. The original series had Adama and Cain as rivals through the academy, they would seem to have too much of an age gap to make this possible in a movie. That means it would be a Cain only movie, for the most part. That could be good, guess we’ll have to wait and see if they do anything with that…

Heck, I’ll take what I can get, I am still disappointed that Firefly only had one season :frowning:

I could never really get into BSG. Too much melodrama & not enough sci-fi IMHO. I was a big fan of SG1 until about the 2004 season when I just seemed to lose interest.

Regards, Rick

Babylon 5 - The final episode, “Sleeping in Light”, was one of my favorite episodes of the entire series and as an ending, couldn’t have been done much better in my opinion. In perusing the various B5 forums, in certainly seems the majority of fans were pleased with the ending.

Off topic but didn’t "The six million dollar man"end on a good note.Col. Steve Austin and Jamie Summers, the bionic woman kept popping up in these abc 90 min. or 2 hr. movies into the early 90s,I couldn’t bear to watch,Lee Majors didn’t look so hot and I think he had a bionic girdle and toupee on.LOL!

But have you seen the promo’s for the new bionic women series that is supposed to start this fall…

I did away with cable t.v. in favor of DSL,most of the shows I liked, got axed anyway, and I can watch every show of heroes,on nbc.com for free. The bionic woman sounds interesting,I always wondered with one bionic arm how you could pick up a truck without having your arm tear off at the shoulder!LOL,he would look like the black knight,in the "Holy Grail"LOL

I agree about B5’s ending. It’s a credit to JMS and Harlan Ellison’s collaboration. There are rumors that keep popping up that JMS still has plans for a B5 movie. I think Firefly’s great showing at the box office will help to further the developments of “at least” decent SciFi on the big screen.

I think our general Fast food mentality pretty much puts out alot of good programing on TV. Unless we’re laughing every couple of minutes, most programing doesn’t seem to last very long on TV.

But then I could be wrong.
