Enamel thinner wash over dullcote (lacquer)

Is this a no-no or will the enamel thinner ruin the dullcote lacquer finish?

I always wash over a gloss coat (futures) easy to wipe off the excess wash. The dull coat is the next to last step before powders. If your base coat is also enamels it could possibly ruin those depending on you thickness of dull coat and drying time.

Hope this helps

Base coat is acrylics, but I ask because for final weathering with pigment you can apply dry or with thinner. I can try a test spot to see - just wondered if anyone had experience in the matter.

If you use enamel thinner on a lacquer dullcoate, it will cause the small particles that create the dull coat to come out of suspension and create a “fogged” look. Very useful if that’s what you really want to have happen, but alarming if not. [(-D] Respraying dullcoat causes it to disappear back again but this will also likely eliminate your pigment effect in the process.

Thanks wbill, that answers that!

For pigment, I recommend that you use water mixed with detergent. It is much saver because even if you rub on the model, it wont eat the paint below.
