Elefant/Ferdinand Group Build 2/13/05-6/6/05

I managed to get them on, although I knocked two of them off during the build but I somehow miraculously found them on my work table.

So crossracer, you gonna fill us in on the track sag method??

Nice looking builds are continuing, guys. I haven’t had a chance to work on mine. I hope to get the silver highlights on the tracks tonight, put them on and be ready to decal.

Have a good one.

Thanks for posting the info on the Berlin Elefants. I would be willing to kill to get my hands on a picture of one of them. If I wasn’t so far along already I would model mine after one of those… would be cool to make a grizzled vereran Elefant in the defense of Berlin!

Status update:

Attaching wheels and sprockets tonight, as well as the superstructure and engine deck. Assembly of the Friuls is almost done, I hope to get the first coat of paint on the tracks tonight. I will attempt the camo pattern on the Elefant in the next day or so. I’m hoping to do a pattern that is a cross between the subtle camo on the front box art, and the bolder looking camo pattern on the kit photos on the side of the box. (although I may change my mind later, I’m still a bit torn on how I want to finish the “look”).

used wheel mask supplied w/ kit from edusrd I think Im in love Im using the prototype of the elefant in signals tigers in action the one that is now at aberdeen

Thanks for laying the guilt trip on, now I’ll have to look for it. LOL

sorry guys- I have been busy and haven’t had time to check in. I would love to see pics of those Berlin Elefants if you find them though

Anyone here speak Polish and can translate? If you look at the 2nd to the last image on the page, it looks like it might be a photo of an Elefant possibly in the defense of Berlin?

She got smashed pretty good. No, I don’t read Polish. LOL

finished surgery last night, everything back to order but the tracks… just cant get them back on right… so I will take u aikinutNY’s offer for his set of dragon tracks and hopefully she’ll be done within a couple weeks…

Making tracks this morning to the post office with the complete set of tracks and a pair of drive and idler sprockets. Let me know when the postman rings.

I was amazed to hear that Adolf changed the name from Ferdinand to Elefant after the refit, but the crews refered to their vehicles as “old ferdinand” or such.

aikinutNY… i appreciate it. hopeully the end results will be worth all the hassle… Please let me know the shipping cost so I can reimburse you.

Roadwheels attached. One set of Friul sprockets attached to the kit mounting points (part E5). That was interesting. Snipped the axle off the plastic part and also the Friul sprocket. I had to sand down the inner disk of E5 so it would fit snuggly into the sprocket. That took a while, then super glued them together. Tonight I will probably wind up snippin off the axle of the other two sprockets, sand out the “bowl” and attempt to mount them flush with parts B15 and B16.

I may need to touch up the base coat just a bit on the sprockets, had to do a lot of “handling” while performing the abover operations. My goal is to have this bad boy camouflaged this weekend.

1/72 update:

I highlighted the tracks with silver, last night. Unfortunately, one side came apart in one place, the other in 3 or 4. These 1/72 tracks are really fragile. I’m having flashbacks to Model Kasten tracks!

Just an update on how my wash came out!

I did the wash using black artists oils, and thinner! in my opinion the black may have been a little to extreme, so I’m going to go back over everything with a lite-umber wash to see if I can lighten things up a little. Give me your thoughts on what you think I should do! I’m open to anyway that may improve the look of the wash. I have also had to go and touchup the areas around the decal numbers as they did not lay down to well. These pics don’t reflect that work yet. Everytime I touch this thing I knock something off, so I’ve got some reattaching to do on few items. Semper Fi, mike

mike, don’t touch it, i think it looks great! nice job!

Terrific job, Mike. It’s all come together very well.

Road wheels? Are they steel or have rubber tires? Also on the suspension there is a square block on each arm is that a rubber bumper for the suspension?

Jim;

Wheels are steel. Not sure about the blocks. Sorry.
