Your point degenerated into an argument about overclaiming air-to-air kills in the Pacific…I stand by the fact that two full Jagdgeschwaders (JG 51 and JG 54), a partial third (JG 5) --and numerous other smaller units-- were equiped with 190’s and that the type was not rare on the Ostfront…period. Nice build, don’t ruin it by arguing in the hopes that your perception will turn into fact…
Equipped with FWs after 1943 and in the case of 54, only part of the unit was there because it was called home. If in the fall of 43 in the East you’ve only got one full fighter group, and it’s flying 109s, one can infer that the LW was low on fighters and those that they had were mainly 109s. If you’re happy that means the type was “not rare” then you’re right.

Your prof was right, the USAAF hunted the Luftwaffe relentlessly, starting when General Doolittle took over command of the 8th AF… Prior to that, under Genral Spaatz, the mission statement was “Protect the Bombers”. Under Doolittle, it was “Destroy the Luftwaffe”. 8th AF fighter pilots were given kill credit for destroying aircraft on the ground as well as in the air. However, it doesn’t count in the American Fighter Aces Association or the US Air Force scorebooks…
Your prof might also have been aware of the standard German Infantryman’s less than admirable quip about the Luftwaffe: “If the airplanes are silver, they are American. If they are green, they are British. If they are invisible, they are ours.”
Could you post some more shots with better lighting on the fuselage sides? It’s pretty dark in there…Got good views of the top & sides, but not the sides…
Something you may want to condsider… Keep a can of Testor’s Decal Bonder on hand… Spray the decal sheets with it, just a couple of light coats, and let them dry. Then you can lay to rest a lot of worry about decals tearing up or disintegrating when you appy them… I love the stuff, and it’s saved many an old decal sheet for me, some as much as 30 years old…
Again, great build. Is it just me or do the prop blades look wider on the 190 as compared to say the 109?
They’re wider on the 190… Late-war 190s also had wooden blades…
