As soon as this kit arrived, I wanted to start it. I knew that Eduard would be releasing an additional PE set for it, so I waited. I also ordered the placards, which should arrive soon.
This is the cockpit OOB, since there are no items for it on the additional or placards sets. The console tops and instrument panels are pre-“painted,” (probably actually printed), and the RLM 66 color is a bit “bluer” than the WEM color that I used. Model Master enamel RLM 66 would probably be a closer match. Since the cockpit will be dark once installed, I doubt that the difference in shade will show.
I added three cables (one goes to the stick, the others towards the front of the cockpit) that I saw in pics. I never thought I’d say this, but I think a company finally outdid the Trimaster/DML/Dragon Fw 190 kits. I just ordered their Fw 190A-5 today.
Pix… 4:53 AM!!! Don’t you know oyu are supposed to be in bed with your blanky pulled up to your chin dreaming about Doug Bader splashing 109’s over the Channel?
But as long as you were up… thanks for posting the pit pics. Looks great. Love that Eduard OOB look[:)] I have two 8’s and a 5 that I am itching to start.
Thank you ygmodeler, Marc, mucker, Bud, and Drew !
Marc - if you like PE, get the additional set plus the placards. There are lots of parts for the wheel wells, engine, and gunbays, as well as open engine panels (with fasteners !). I just ordered the A-5, but will wait for the PE before starting it.
Drew - I don’t care much about ease, I just like the detail it provides. I could never paint the stenciling or fine lines. Since they are so crisply printed, you need to be very careful with the rest of the cockpit. Any sloppiness will show next to them, and they’ll look like add-ons. I only wish they had a little more depth.
That the best out of box cockpit I’ve seen. I take all the photo etch is per printed/ painted to get all the little color detail. I try to use color set when I can I like the detail. Nice clean work by the way pix, working with small photo parts and really show how much glue control you have.
