Im building an Easy Eight Sherman and have come across a slight problem.
Was this Sherman deployed heavily in Europe?. I cant find any reference photos on the type of cargo it carried, eg tracks, sandbags, you know the stuff.
I want to build a heavily seen combat Sherman so any photos of modification done by the crews would help also. Also i need to know where it fought in Europe, because im planning a diorama, thanks
Damian.
pastern… hope this link helps you
the first one took part in the releaf of Bastone in the Ardennes
they had steel sheets welded to them and some had the same as all the other shermans, sandbags and concrete
some photos
more photos here http://www.wwiivehicles.com/html/usa/tanks_medium/m4_sherman.html
Thanks tankergeoff that helped the side, top views are helpful. Captain Caveman that sight really helped, lots of specs.
I need more info on the Ardennes Sherman. Any idea of where the steel sheets were welded on?. Got any pics?.
the top photo and the bottom photo have the steel plate on, it was welded to the glacius plate and some tanks either side of the turret
Thanks Captain Caveman, that helps.
no problem
Dragon do a kit of the WW2 easy eight, ive got it upstares and there bringing out another kit of it soon,
The HVSS (easy 8) suspension were very common in the European campaign. You can get several pics in Zaloga’s Concord book “Shermans at War (pt 2)”
They were on the M4A3 gun tanks (both 75mm and 76mm turrets), the 105mm howitzer tanks. The HVSS M4A2s were even supplied to the Soviets and there are photos of them during the Manchurian campaign against the Japanese!
The American ones had full variety of up armoring and gear attachment as other late war US Shermans.
