I have searched all over but I still can’t find an answer to a simple question:
The difference between the exhaust openings on Bf-109B’s,C’s and D’s.
I know (think?) that the B-1’s/B-2’s have just the flush mounted exhausts and the D’s have the short, curved pipes. What does the C version have? Most of my references seem to contradict each other on this subject. I have seen some early 109’s with what looked like E style exhausts installed but I think those are kinda rare. Any info on where I can answer these questions?
Checked out the 109 Lair but didn’t see what I needed.
Hopefully some of the Luftwaffe fans will be able to answer this question.

According to my sources, both the B models had the oval openings in the cowl for the exhaust (the main difference between the B-1 and the B-2, the B-1 had a fixed pitch wooden prop, while the B-2 had a Hamilton Variable pitch prop). The C and D models had the oval openings with an oval exhaust pipe protruding thru them. The E had the squared off ejector type exhaust fitted. (Note the E-type exhausts were also fitted to some late Ds used in flight schools). Hope this helps a littee.
All the shots I have, or have seen, seem to show the Clara to have a similar exhaust configuration as the Dora.
There’s a couple shots HERE which show Claras very clearly.
Click on ‘Bf 109C’ on the menu to the left, then select the specific variants you’d like to see in the box at upper right.
Fade to Black…
Thanks Guys[tup] I knew I could get the correct information here!
Reason I am curious about the exhaust ports is that I recently started on the older Hobbycraft Bf-109C. All that was in this kit were the open oval openings even though it shows the separate exhaust stubs on the box art. I remember when I did their B variant, all the different styles were included. BTW, the B was an older original release.
So obviously, between my references and the kit you can see why I was getting confused. Built out of the box, this kit can only be built as a Bf-109B with a metal prop(with shell ejector openings on the bottom wing). I know…No wing armament on the B’s.
This sound about right? I will search around and see if I can find some exhaust stubs that will work as I have my heart set on a C or D version.
Now let me start another thread on a Bf-109E Trop!
Thanks!!
