Dullcote over Acrylics

Is it safe to apply Testors laquer Dullcote from the spraycan directly onto a coat of Polly Scale acrylics or any acrylics?

If not, would a coat of Future floor polish act as a barrier?

Thanks a lot.

I have used Testor’s Dullcote over Tamiya Acrylics for a number of years now without any problems at all. But on my latest kits I used Future mixed with Tamiya Flat Base and find the results to be much better.

I used a mix of 70% Future to 30% Tamiya X-21 Flat Base.

No problems here!

I always use Testors Dull Coat over my builds(both on enamel & acrylic) and have never had a problem.

The only thing I must mention is, be very careful when getting to the bottom of the can, you can get “spits” of the dull coming out and winding up on a model.

I use about 3/4 of the can and toss it. I would rather waste a bit of the can than ruin an almost complete build with spots on the surface.

As long as you don’t brush the stuff, you should have no problems. Be careful with the cans and make sure they’re at room temperature, otherwise, they may come out glossy. That happened to a guy in the ckub to his great chagrin.

You shouldn’t have any problems. Make sure that the acrylic is fully dry, best left overnight, then spray over. As ajlafleche said, brushing it on may start to strip the arcylic because of the abrasive nature of the brush, but sprayed on should be just fine.

does a coat of Future act as a barrier? does the dullcote have any adverse effects on Future?

I airbrush dullcoat directly over acrylics, enamels and oils with no problems. Future adds another layer you don’t need. That said, I’ve also airbrushed dullcoat over Future (used for decalling purposes) with no ill eefects.

I use an AB rather than a rattle can, but Iv’e never experienced a problem spraying Dullcote over Future. Just make sure the Future is completely cured ( 24-48 hrs. ) before you apply Dullcote.
