I have finished my Panther with pastels I want to keep. What effect will a Testor’s dullcote spray have on this finish?? I want to fix the weathering work but not lose the pastel effect.Any recommended precautions or advice?
Thanks!

Overspraying pastels with a flat clear coat can sometimes diminish the overall effect. Applying the pastels a little heavy so if toned down it will look OK. Note the “if”… if they don’t tone down as much as you hope then the overdone pastels will look… welll… overdone.
I post shade with pastels all the time as the very last steps over the flat coat. It gets in there pretty good and isn’t going anywhere.
Are you applying additional pastels over the flat coat when wet OR dry? If the spray is 12-18 inches away from the model (misting) does that have any different effect on the pastel effect?
Thanks!

I apply the pastels with a stiff brush after the final flat coat has dried completley. The coverga e of he flat coat is what will determine how much it will affect the pastels. Best thing ot do is try it on some scrap 1st.
Today, I used the Testor’s Dull cote on the pastel finish on my Panther with no problem. I sprayed from 12-15 inches away from the top and sides of the model. At that distance most of the pastel weathering remained. I think the pastel is now fixed and the model will survive light handling. Thanks for your suggestions. Input is always appreciated!
