What exactly is a dull coat. I have heard if referred to but im not sure what it is
A Dull Coat is simply a clear flat paint that is usually used as the last painting step, after decaling, in order to give the model a uniform matte finish. Tesors makes a Lacquer flat paint called Dullcote, which I like to use over enamels, but many Modelers swear by Polly S acrylic flat coat. There are similar products from other model paint manufacturers, but these are the only two I have actually used.
I used Testor’s Dullcote for a number of years with good success.
My latest models I switched to a mixture of 70% Future and 30% Tamiya Dull Base. I’ll never go back to Testors again, what a great finish !!!
Thanks
Robert what is the Tamiya dull base X?? or XF??
Tamiya Base is X-21. You can’t use it straight as a paint, it’s a flattening agent, but mixes very well with future.
