Hi!
First post. Trying to learn to create some decent plastic scale models. I did my second and used Mr Hobby TOPCOAT (Flat Matt) to finish it off. Stupidly, I failed to protect the clear canopy and so now it has a dull coat on it.
How can I remove the topcoat on the canopy to regain the clear transparency?
Thanks!

It appears this is an acrylic product. If so, that’s pretty good news.
Before adding more semi permanent stuff on top of it, as suggested above, compounding your problem and further sealing in the flat covering you’ve put on the glazing, I’d get a Q-tip dipped in isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) or Windex type window cleaner to try and remove the flat coat. That should remove it. If it doesn’t, you’re next shot should be a polishing compound, such as Novus. This may break up the acrylic coat and let you wipe the glazing clean. Last option, is getting a set of high quality polishing pads whose grit is somehere in the 16,000 to 32,000 range. Start with a mid range, 800-1000 grit and keep pllishing until you get a shiny super clear finish.
If the product was laquer based, fuhgeddaboudit! You’ve etched the glazing and with a WHOLE LOT of polishing, you might me able to salvage it. You may just have to chalk this one up to experience.
You can also try to soak it in Simple Green overnight… But whatever you do, ditto what AJ said… DON’T try to fix it by spraying on something else…
If all else fails, you may have to look for a vac-formed replacement or try to get one from the manufacturer…
