Duck Hunter GB

$50 is good, I think the cheapest over that side of the pond I have found is 60.

Count me in with a 1/76 Airfix 40mm Bofors and a Revell 1/76 M-16 Halftrack.

My father was a fire control operator on a 40mm Bofors during WW II with the 447th AAA AW Bn, Battery C. Battery C was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation for its actions during the Battle of the Bulge.

I’m planning a dio depicting the Bofors & M16 on the morning of 17 Dec. 1944 (they attacked 25 light, med & heavy German Tanks and a company of infantry).

I’m just starting to put together the parts for the dio and only have the Bofors, M16 & white metal Bofors crew so far but it’s a great way to get started. I’ll add a Panzer IV and German Infantry later.

Adrian

Welcome aboard Adrian. Eagle will put you down for your 76th Dio when he is next on.

My Great Uncle used to be a gunner on the Bofor. He was based up in the Shetland Isles, probably protecting the Navy base up there. and claims he never saw a German aircraft. I didn’t know the Americans used them.

Welcome to the Duck Hunters GB Adrian! Got you on the list. Very cool subjects I might add and a super dio! Can’t wait to see it!

Eagle90

Put me down for a TBD, don’t have any AA in the stash but I have something I might be able to what-if.

Glad to have you aboard yg! Let me know as soon as you know what you’re going to build. Looking forward to it!

Eagle90

I’m new to FSM, and Shivinigh has been pestering me to do a group build, so he’s given me a Hasegawa 88mm Flak 18 1/72 scale. it’s my first non-plane kit since I was in high school and i’m just getting back into scale model building. This is going to be fun.

Welcome Jacinth68! Got you on the list! And good for Shivinigh! You will love doing a GB! You really do learn a lot! We have some awesome builders in the GB that are more than willing to help and share tips and tricks. I’m doing my first car in another GB, so I know how you feel, but once you get started you just can’t stop!

Eagle90

got car cleaned out to start loading for nationals. will have 2 good size wooden ships (not mine but my wood ship club has an 8 model exhibition) and i am taking 10 because i can. none will win unless there are only 2 other entries in the category but what the hell doubt there will be many MAS boats, MAIALE submarines, firejeeps or syrian police BRDMs there. maybe, when the dust settles i will pick a kit and build for national competition in between building for fun. NNNAAAAAHHHHH!!!too many GBs.

Good luck to you at Nationals!

Good luck Wayne! Not that you need it…your work speaks for itself! Have fun!!!

Eagle90

Welcome aboard Jacinth. I can concur that GB’s are a great way to pick up tips and ideas. Only problem is they are very addictive. I have done nothing by GB’s for the past 5 years. But they are fun. Those hase kits are rather nice, you should have fun with that one.

And I just saw that you did a post about the Ju 87G-2 a few days ago and have then crossed it out. have you found an answer to the question.

wayne, good luck. I am sure will builds will wow them big time. Building for fun. Now that rings a bell.

Alrighty I’m gonna build Trump’s 1/35 SA-2 missile w/launcher

You got it! Great build I might add! Looking forward to it.

Eagle90

That is a good kit. You will enjoy it. I did.

I’ve definitely had my eye on it for awhile Carlos, now I have a reason to build one.

i enjoyed the SA-2 too. launcher build was great, missile was a missile. decaling was not fun, the instructions were vague. OTOH some missiles have few markings, some are camo’ed, and the text is cryillic so if it’s upside down no one really knows. DON’T PUT THE “NO PHOTOGRAPHS” DECAL ON. think i have pics in the armor forum.

well hell bish when you have a big enough stash you already have something or you create your own GB to fit what you want to build. (he says as he buys a second DO-335 for a GB) i may start a modern asian GB.

Thanks Bish & Eagle, sorry for the late reply.

Bish, on the Americans use of the Bofors - my fathers battery (Battery C) had 8 - 40mm Bofors and batteries B & D also contained 8 Bofors. However, Battery A only had 7 Bofors assigned. Not sure why they were short 1 weapon.

Each Battery also had 4 - M16 halftracks.

I’ve begun searching the web to try to find any identification numbers for any of the guns or vehicles of the 447th but haven’t found any yet. I’ve found a few pictures but nothing definite yet.

Adrian

Ye, I know that feeling. Its not often I have to buy a kit for a GB I am interested in. In fact, the up coming FSM figures GB is only the second time. And your right, if there isn’t a GB for it, start one.
