I was dry fitting some parts together and the fit was so tight that they got stuck, but I still need to paint both parts different colors, what’s the best way to get stuff like this to come apart?
Maybe a thin blade, toothpick, something to get between the parts and pry them apart?
You might try the old trick for opening jars - immerse the assembly in warm (not hot) water to expand and help break the joint, or put them in the freezer to shrink the parts. Both techniques are a first step, and don’t risk damage to the parts.
I keep a very small screwdriver on my bench. I can usually wedge it between parts, and if the parts are really stuck together, I can turn the screwdriver a bit for more prying. This thing is a conventional screwdriver with a tip only about 1/16 inch wide and a very sharp edge.
Try Easy Lift Off (E.L.O.) Its a TESTORS product used to remove paint. But its slippery and I have used it for getting parts to separate. Just a tiny amount at the joint. A little goes a long way.
And it wont hurt the plastic or leave a oily residue behind.
Well, I wish I read this sooner, I ended up having to cut the pieces apart, but fortunately, I was able to glue them back together after painting. Fortunately, these pieces aren’t fully exposed, so you couldn’t tell just by looking at it.
