Drilling holes into brass rod

Does anyone have a recommendation on drilling holes into a hollow brass rod? I am making an in-flight display for the Airfix’s 1/48 P-51D using the included locator holes and for this build I do not want to drill a hole like I normally would for a display in-flight aircraft.

I did see a device that someone invented just for this purpose.

I think I might need to clarify, while I totally forgot about needing a jig. I meant what type drill bits to safely drill in to small brass rods? Standard drill bits okay?

Yes, HSS micro bits will do.

:+1: Thank you, very much appreciated!

You’re very welcome. It did help that you clarified your question.

I did it recently as a gun port in a harrier and I just did it carefully by hand with a small pin vice type drill. Took a minute, but was easy.

Thanks everyone for the suggestion. My plan is to drill into the side of a brass rod (square or round) to add two small posts. This is to allow for an in flight display without drilling a large hole to allow for a post to go through the inside of the model. The Airfix has two small holes for the in flight display that Airfix uses. Then I can bend the rod to allow for an in flight display.
This is also a test for a couple of Macross models that I want to display in-flight, but the gunpod takes away some of the area where I can add a post.
