Dragons knockout points?!?!

Hmm, do you think that if I save all these little knockout points from my Dragon/DML kits and send them in that they would trade for a free kit[;)]? I mean, when I finish with one kit, I have a small pile of these things everywhere[:O]! Seems they could be recycled into another kit.

Would be nice ehh?[swg]

So what do you all do with these, trash 'em?

I dout that they would do that. I use them for spare parts.

I would definitely keep them for spare parts. Was thankful on several occasions that i kept the spare parts from previous kits.

Get yourself some clear plastic sandwhich bags, clip all parts off their sprue, and write the kit they come from on the bag with a Sharpie; that way you’ll know where to look when you need an extra/replacement part; labelling the bags gives you a good idea of where to find what you need.

You won’t believe how many times that this has saved my butt!

I think that you all have misunderstood me! I wasnt asking about the leftover parts or the sprues but the small bullet shaped pieces of plastic that are used to knock the sprues out of the mold without having pin marks on the kit. Was being a bit comical as well, when you finish a Dragon/DML kit, looks like we have more plastic left over than in the model![(-D]

I have noticed the same. I wasn’t sure why they were on my parts. One technique I have seen in one of my modeling books where they used sprue parts and a chemical (cant recall here at work) to melt it down and pour for molding parts. I figured I keep the little bullets for this reason.

lol yeah I kind of like that new strategy they put in place. Its a pain of a cleanup, but at least no pin ejector marks on the parts themselves. Honestly, after every DML build that has those, I have to completely remove everything from my desk and the surrounding area, and spend a good half hour cleaning it all up. Those things just get everywhere.

ok,everyone send your dml plastic leftover little bullets to jester and he can save them up like kool-aid lables and get a new kit of his choice! you know your absolutely right about the left0over waste material.perhaps a few pounds of these and they will credit us all with showing the amount of waste generated they can mend there ways and dragon kits will go down in price.

Lol, well I work in extrusion where we do basically the same thing as the model making industry. That sure is alot of styrene going to waste, but then again, im sure Dragon and everyone else is getting paid for every ounce of it!

[#ditto] what’s wrong with kool-aid points? i still save them [8D]

rooster the kool-aide labels are good.my wife saves them for her grandson.happy building.jester,i have noticed that if you drop them on the floor at your feet and rub your feet into them they’re actually stim ulating.as in the energy to keep building.you know that therapy thing we must all endure,my wife kind of gives me the look, the one that says "you’ve been hiding back there in that little hovel, you and your expensive toys.one day i’ll walk in there you’ll be stiff as a board.and did you notice that those things are everywhere .it’s time too build.have a good one.

the worst is when you model over carpet, and you have to hear it from the (mrs) boss. i try to throw them back into the box when i cut them off, or into a consolidated pile. but they always end up on the floor. on the carpet. with my butt chewing. lol

Oh…DUH![#wstupid] Luckily I’m a bachelor, so I have about 10,000 of them all over the floor, behind the stereo, in the carpeting…the worst thing is stepping on them in bare feet![(-D]

ROFL, now thats what I am talking about![(-D]

I sweep them, along with all the other tiny bits of crap, with a desk broom. It all goes into a little storage container labeled “desk leavings”. When it’s time for the annual urban dio, it goes into the rubble mix: small bits of wire, pins, photo etch, plaster chips, styrene shavings, balsa bits, those little bullety ejection pins, dog hair([:)])… when all this stuff is sticking out of a rubble pile, I paint it to no longer look like what it once was.

Steve

Good one Steve!

Part of the start/finish transition ritual after every build is to run the vaccuum cleaner thoroughly over the carpet around the workbench to clear them out. Makes it easier when the ineveitable part makes a run for it to locate and retrieve it. [;)]

Aye, I have had to rescue many a part from the carpet monster as well and it does make it hard when there are several pieces of scrap plastic in the floor.

Also, since we are on the topic of scrap and left over plastic, how about ModelKasten?? Man, I bet you could almost make another set of tracks out of the left over sprue!!

Oh yes…MK’s produce more debris than finished product in the end…a mountain of sprue leftovers! I use ordinary glass bowls when constructing them to throw the sprues into and then dispose of when done to avoid the pile getting away from me. [(-D]
