Ok guys, the Dragon Late Pro King Tiger says on the box that it has the late treads. So it’s got the 18 tooth sprocket? Or is it late, but not REALLY late? I can’t seem to find an in-depth review of the kit online. Does this model otherwise have the late production characteristics? Can someone give me a rundown of the features? Thanks.
From what I have read in another forum, it is a late production KT but not the last production KT. It is rumored that DML is coming out with a final production KT in the spring. However, if you want to buy the Aber p/e set for the Tamiya KT, it comes with the late style front fenders. The new fenders and some other changes are necessary to turn it into a last production KT. The MMIR book “Modellers guid to the Tiger Tank” has a build review of a last production King Tiger. It’s a project I want to do (octopus pattern) and will use this book as a guide. HTH
Thanks – what about the sprocket? Do you know if it’s 9 or 18?
If you’re referring to the #6232, they give you both sprockets in the kit, but you’ll have to use the 9-tooth for the kit’s late track, or get AM track and use the 18.
EDIT: I must have been sitting on my brain when I posted this! It should read the other way around. The kit uses the late track and 18 tooth drive sprockets, or you can use the 9-tooth (included) with AM tracks.
PMMS definitely says they are releasing a Final version of the KT
I bought kit 6232 yesterday. King Tiger Late Production. Here’s the sprockets in the kit. 9 tooth, 18 tooth and the 18 tooth with the triangular tooth shape. Excuse my ignorance as to their formal name. Any way, here’s a picture of the sprues. It’s a beautiful kit with tons of parts. Aluminum barrel, photo etch screen, brass ammunition, steel cables and a nice color instruction booklet. All for $32.00! Can’t beat that. This would have cost almost $100 to build the Tamiya kit this was. ANyway, here’s the pic.
Hey thanks, but I don’t see a picture. Maybe it’s web-hosted? Websense blocks those.
The aluminum barrel doesn’t have a muzzle break attached to it, does it? If I understand this correctly, Dragon gives you the barrel, but you have to carve the muzzle break off the plastic barrel and plonk it onto the aluminum barrel, right? If so, [:0]. I’ll probably spring for the Eduard barrel. [:)]
I can see the pic, Larry.
That’s what I understand about the muzzle brake. What a pain!
That’s correct Larry_Dunn. Aluminum barrel only, you have to cut the plastic one up to get the muzzle brake. Still, a very nice kit.
the Tiger 2 you have is one that used experimental tracks in the Ardennes
there is a final version coming out
Here’s a pic of the kit’s barrel and the instructions for attaching the muzzle break. Hope this clears everything up.
