I need a Hornisse/Nashorn to complete my WWII German armor collection (or stash).
The Hornisse is much cheaper than the current Dragon Nashorn.
However, one thing that bothers me about the kit is I would have to cut 200+ individual tracks from the sprue.
Should I just get a Nashorn w/ magic track?
Which kit? The DML Hornisse/Nashorn has gone through 6 or 7 iterations. Some of the first ones are quite horrible.
I didn’t know that. The kit number is 6165. It’s a 10th anniversary kit. What’s confusing about the kit (or Internet reviews) is according to a few photos of the kit, parts are in dark yellow, not in usual Dragon grey.
Just beware of Imperial kits 90?? And 60?? Kit numbers. Those are the oldest kits. I think the one you’re looking at has gotten decent reviews. The newer smart kit or premium would kick it up a notch.
It’s an old school kit, but much better than their original ones. Here’s a 2002 review of it.
I’ve built all of the Hornisse/Nashorn kits that Dragon has done. Including the Hummel. They are all really nice builds. Yes even they first one from 1990. For the time it was great. It even won a few awards for me back then. I did do some extra work on it though. Which was fun and sure beat not having to scratch build one.
This is a very good kit. About all you have to watch out for is the plastic template part that is used to align the fuel filler caps in the inner inside fighting compartment. Don’t glue those in, the instructions are not clear about that. They looks like they belong there, but they don’t. That is about the only issue I had with the kits.
These SPs have always been some of my favorites, ever since the Avalon Hill Panzer Blitz game. Fantastic attack factor and range. Not so great on defense, but with the range of the weapon, and stricking from cover, they usually survived.

For $20, I can’t complain about the Hornisse. I’ve found a review where unclear/wrong instructions are corrected. I’ll add it to my stash.
I know I’ll eventually end up with buying a Dragon late Nashorn kit.
I smell a work in progress. Check out the Doogs Nashorn,Pvt. Mutt has one in the works also.

I have done both the Nashorn kit 6165 and the Hummel kit 6204 I was very pleased with the completed kit. All parts fit was real good had no issues with either kit, I would recomend these kits to anyone. ACESES5[2cnts]

Sometimes, when it comes to adding a subject you really want, it is best when you bite the bullet early and buy the best one available. If the kit is just going to sit in your stash unbuilt for years, then by all means, get the older kit.
