This little guy gave me a few fits, mostly due to my unfamiliarity with the vehicle itself and the hyroglyphic instructions. Fellow modelers be ware! this kit ain’t no cake walk! The main quirk in the build is Dragons way of “angling” the fenders. This all rests on the center brace and a very small tit on the reverse to “stress” the fender(s) into position. Phew! this is NOT clearly explained or illustrated in the instruction sheet by the way.
Finished with Tamiya and Lifecolour, MIG pigment. The only AM is the Royal Model tow cable (from the axis vehicle set), and some tools from the two lion roar sets that came free with the CH PzI’s I ordered. Comments are always welcome. The rear stowage box lids are reversed (my bad), the hinge appendages are off, should have paid closer attention to the instructions there.[zzz]
I scratched and bashed the engine from the Eduard Hetzer, proving again to be a valuable resource for 38t parts.
I really liked the build, I just wish the instructions were a little better. The other disappointment was the lack of PE or sufficient detail on the external fire extinguisher,
As I can see, you were busy with this guy. I really like the detail and weathering of the turret. Cool PE ammo for the MG. Ditto to the wrenches. For some reason I thought this to be a Smart Kit. Probably wouldn’t have caught the storage lids if you hadn’t mentioned it. As always, your extra details make an ordinary kit more pronounced.
I just stumbled on that kit on the web this week and was immediately intrigued with my affinity for all things ‘38t’ and now here you are to show what it can be made into!
Wow, pretty cool build! Looks like quite a project–I can’t believe there’s no PE on it!
Nice attention to detail. I like how all the hatches are open.
I picked up the other Aufklarungspanzer–the one with the StuH in it. I didn’t realize there was this other one too–didn’t some other manufacturer else do one of these kits?
She’s a little beauty Steve i love this vehicle you’ve got a great finish on her the weathering is very nicely done. Doog there is another kit of this out by marquette/VM i built it last year and if you ever get the chance to, dont it is quite bad, in fact its terrible.
Yep, that Marquette kit gives me the same feeling as the Eduard Hetzer when I cracked the box. That kit has provided details for both this guy and the Marder IIIM, interior stuff. The molding detail is horrible on the Eduard kit. I understand the Tamiys Hetzer is much better.
excellent build, I have one of these vehicles. I remember many moons ago having to buy the azimut conversion to put on the italeri kit. It was an expensive excerise. The dragon kit is a real gem.
I love these forums. Im no expert by any stretch of the imagination but ive never seen this particular AFV. I recognise the running gear and the turret but not together.
Looks top notch Crockett, fantastic build as usuall.
Beautiful looking build,Steve—as the others have said, all the little extras really add up to alot!–real nice job with the hatches all open and the turret interior looks outstanding![tup][tup]-- its a cool looking subject—tread[8D]
Thanks you guys. I find that in this scale these little 38t’s benefit from some added stuff. Quite honestly, I don’t see how these could be built with crew figures in the turret, and , the real thing must have been a miserable ride. Cramped, open topped and thinly armed…
