Dragon #6081 Sturmpanzer question

I found this Dragon kit #6081, Sturmpanzer IV Brummbar at my LHS. Can anyone tell me is this a new kit, an old kit, a retooling, or what? Is there any p-e or metal frets included? I cannot find any review of this particular kit on-line. I’d like to get this kit but don’t want to be stuck with a re-issue, ala Italeri, from a decade ago.

Thanks.

I have kit #6026 Late Brummbar. I’m pretty sure they are both Dragon genes. It’s a pretty nice looking kit and comes with minimal pe i.e. for hangers for the schurzen and others. They are frequently on ebay, so you might go that route unless your LHS is selling it cheap.

Thanks. I was wondering if this kit was a retool or not, and with Dragon’s propensity to stuff their new kits full of neat add-ons, there are no indications on the box that it is other than a re-issue of an old kit. I will assume then it is simply a good old kit in a new box.

I would be pretty confident that it is an original Dragon mold. The original Dragon Brummbar was released a decade ago (6026 released in 1994), so it is probably an older Dragon mold. One thing you can check is the date on the side of the box. Sometimes Dragon will put this year’s date on a reissue, but other times they are honest about the date of the molds.

The date is in a block of type with the address on the side facing you if you are looking at the box top right side up. It’s usually on the right side of that edge.

WARNING WARNING WARNING: You need to check the parts list and check to see if the top mount for the commanders hatch is there. Apparently the original had a larger photo etched set, however the reissue (that i have) does not have that part. In other words there is no way to plug the large hole the commanders hatch goes into. Check it out. I havnt started mine because of this problem. One of the british mags did a nice review of this i was reading the other night. If you want a copy i can send you one. Just email me. Thanks for the warning. My friends at CRM said it is a re-issue of a decent old kit #6026(?) but still builds up into a nice model. They also told me it was a far better version than the Tamiya offering of the same tank.

I went back and read the artical, it says that you will not be able to finish the model with out the parts. It seems it has been reengineered for plastic parts, but those parts are not included. Good luck Bill

Wow…wouldn’t you think that Dragon would recognoze this problem and either issue a replacement part or withdraw the kit from the shelves? Trumpeter issued a new sprue of chrome parts on the Pontiac kit a couple years ago…Dragon should do likewise.

I’m glad I asked about this kit or I would have been stuck with a kit that I could not have finished. Thanks for the 411.

As others have stated, DML’s 6026 is in their “39-45 Series”, and does include the PE for the commanders cupola. I had an open-box, unbuilt 6026 with the Jaguar zimm set for $30.00 bux on ebay a week ago and no bites.

Even though that is a pretty good deal, I say you started off to high. I won the same kit, with the same zimmerit (ironic isn’t it) for just $21. I say you try again with a lower price and watch the bidding wars begin. That zimmerit is excellent by the way, except you have to saw off part of the hull, which scares me a bit.

i have kit #6081 sturmpanzer IV late sd,kfz. 166 and ive looked throught it and from what i see it looks pretty decent although i see no pe at all, but the commanders hatch and the hole for it all are fine the hatch piece is there and fits well so unless im missing something this kit does not seem to have that problem, all in all this looks good in the box but thats the best i can say just by looking.
