Ordered this kit today from the LHS after doing a bit of reading and research on the actual kit. This is my first time building a kit using mixed media, and I am looking forward to it.
Any tips/advice or trick’s that I should know about when I tackle the PE, brass and aluminum parts? Any specific tools or products you guys would recomend to make life a bit easier for a PE first timer?
A lot of patience and some superglue from testors (or where ever) plus a small blade works for me. Just be carful with the photoetched parts with bending them and cutting them out as they are quite thin and bend in the wrong place/break easily. Good luck on your build and keep us posted.
This is an etchmate, used for bending the PE (a little on the expensive side, but works well I hear) I don’t have one, but it makes it easier to bend the brass:
I got this kit in my stash…one day I’ll build it, [:-^]…when I finally get an airbrush.
Anyways, I can’t offer you a ton of help, but remember this model is missing the zimm. So if you want the zimm, some more work will have to be done. By the way here’s a link to Hermesminiatures finished 1/35 Dragon Ferdinand that has many great pics, probably could help you out: /forums/883976/ShowPost.aspx
This was the first armor model I attempted. It’s still incomplete. It’s not because I gave up or it is especially difficult, it’s because the painting hung me up. I used Cavalier Zim on it.
Just remember to take it slow and test fit everything. The PE fenders gave me fits, so be careful on that step. And you won’t use half the parts in the box, so don’t be scared of the number.
All in all it’s a great kit, I’m going to finish the first one and would like to get another someday and try the hand applied zimmerit on it.
I’m going ot have to source out the zimm from somewhere, I dont feel confident enough doing it by hand yet. I’m pretty sure I read about a resin kit available or at least one that will work with a little trimming.
And I hope to have my airbrush in a few weeks so this and the Panther I am working on will be my first attempts at airbrushing after a bit of practice on a few junked kits I have laying around.
Thanks for the info fella’s!
P.S. Nice to see another Summer Glau fan around here mg.mikael !!!
Finally picked up the kit today after finding some time to get to the LHS. I am going to make this my official build/update thread. I plan on documenting this build as much as possible to keep me motivated in regards to fininshing it, so be ready for lots of pics and lots of questions from me =P.
I will have an update with pics later tonight of the unboxing. I have not opened the kit up yet, but it has some weight to it. I was kind of supprised. This will give me a chance to finally use the new camera and tri-pod I got for Christmas. =)
