I just got a new Iwata airbrush that came with an inline moisture trap that attaches to the airbrush stem. My compressor has a moisture trap as well. I have never (that I know of) had issues with moisture getting into the paint mix.
That being said, I am thinking of using both. An ounce of prevention…all that. Has anyone ever done this and what was your experience with it? Thanks in advance.
I used mine that came with my Iwata for about a year. Never caught a drop of moisture, and though Iwata claims it acts as a holding aid down there at the bottom of the handle, I felt it was just cumbersome so I took mine off about 8-10 months ago.
That said, backups never hurt so if it isn’t bothering you, I’d leave it on, Tom.
Just my relatively uninformed two cents. I’ll be interested to hear what our airbrush experts have to say when they chime in.
I use two moisture traps: My Iwata Smart Jet has one and I’ve added a 2nd one to my Sparmax tank.
I use it too Tom. I had issues with moisture at certain times of the year during our 3 month tropical season here in northern Minnesota (May, June, July). I’d get some water shooting out the airbrush but it was most notable spraying enamels or laquers. The inline filter solved my problems. Doesn’t seem to bother my grip too much.
Overkill, my trap in 16 years had never even got wet.
I recently seen a video on you-tube were a guy who lived in Germany had two traps. He had rolled up paper towel in the first trap. Says this will give you really, really dry air.
