Had the privilege of chatting with and shaking the hand of Lt. Col. Dick Cole today, Gen. Jimmy Doolittle’s co-pilot for that momentous raid on Japan. I have the 1/48 scale Revell B-25B kit (H-285) and would like to build it in a diorama recreating that famous take-off from the USS Hornet…
My problem is the raised rivet detail on the mold of the model. How do I cope with that without major re-scribing of the model. Hope my kindred spirits can help. Thank you in advance…
Best to build it that way or get the Accurate Miniatures kit.
I agree with the Accurate Miniatures kit, I have both kits and would highly recommend the AM kit. It has changes that they did to the plane that probably doesn’t come with the Revell kit, and I think the detail is outstanding with the AM kit.
I also agree about the Accurate Miniatures kit.
I didn’t even know AM had a 48th scale version of this kit. That HAS to be good!!
I believe Academy is currently reboxing these molds, or at least the G model. I have heard nothing but good about the kit. Been wanting one for years but the prices on them always seemed a bit high. Hope to pick up one at the next show maybe.
Funny this thread should start now. I just picked up an AM B-25 at a swap meet last week, for a whopping 10 Dollars. Upon opening the still sealed box, I am quite pleased with the detail and can’t wait to start it.
The AM kit really is a much better representation. Emphasis on “much”.
I have the Accurate Miniatures kit started. I would highly recommend it as well.
I have to agree…it’s absolutely outstanding.
If you can get past the too small cowling intake ogive (not hard to correct) then you’re absolutely good to go. The AM intakes are too small in diameter - but it’s a beautiful model otherwise. Cutting Edge used to make corrected cowls, but I’m not really sure they’re needed.
There can never be too many B-25s, as tribute to the plane, to the men who flew them into harm’s way and especially to the Doolittle Raiders.
