Don't open this thread unless you're ready for an extremely sad story...

Well some may know that I’ve built Trumpeter’s 1/32 F-105g wild weasel.(I’ve posted pics earlyer) I was building it for someone and I’ve been working on it for the past 7 months. This morning I was getting ready to go off to the meeting place (our LHS) to give it to him. The thing is so big, I had to put it on top of its box. I put the box and the model with it on top of my table. It was a little to the edge of the table, but it looked like it would stay alive for at least 5 minutes while I eat breakfast (the mistake on my fault). So while I’m eating breakfast with my friend (who is coming with me) I hear this big crash![:(] I SEE MY CATS zipping up the stairs and running from the scene![:(](Not the first time they’ve got to my models-you’d think I’d learn a lesson!) Not cool. I see everything on the floor (the model took a 4ft drop!) and what was once a model all in one piece was now in 20 spread throughout MY CARPET![:(] The carpet monster took about 5 of the pieces and I quickly had to fabricate them and scrable for the sheet stryrene and CA. Tears were coming down my eyes (and not from being too close to the CA[:0][:(]) As I quickly built the thing back together. It was a miracle, but my friend and I could not even see any damage or any sign of me repairing it![:)] We sped off to the LHS and got the deal done![;)] The guy I was building the model for couldn’t tell a thing (not that I’m trying to make a bad deal, because it really looked just like it had before the crash!) and It just got done in the nick of time! I couldn’t cancel the meeting, he’s been waiting 7 months! It was a put up or shut down situation, and I put up brilliantly. I tell you guys, that was best work time to work quality ratio I’ve ever worked at![:I] But to make a purpose to this thread, I would like to ask if anyone’s had any similarities to my story (hopefully not[:0]), but it would be nice to see if I’m not alone. Thanks.

I have two bad experiances that I dont want to remeber, and thanks to you brining this up two years of therapy to help me deal with these inccidents have gone to waste[:(][B)]

Oh boy, that must of been bad!

That is indeed a sad story, with a happy ending!

Mine wasn’t so fortunate.
Finished a model for the show, placed it down on a Sunday morning ready to deliver it to the entries section.
Someones mongrel mutt decided to grab whatever he could and run off.

Caught the dog, found model slobbered and chewed to all hell.
No happy ending for this one.

But you know, I did tell you don’t open it if you can’t handle an extremely sad story, Curiosity killed the cat…

I would kill them.

Mike

yeah, I told my friend to get them away from me before I…
But then I cooled down and relized it was mostly my fault, never again!!!

as us Aussies say . . . “Bugger!”.

Hey MikeV, why not Mechem NTW 20 or my Daisy .177?

Why use something so small, I have an M1 Garand, borrow that, and you won’t be seeing any cats any time soon![:D]

I was being realistic. [:D]
He could borrow my Ruger M-77V .22-250 and with a Sierra 55 gr. HPBT at 3,800 fps he could play, “Pop goes the weasel” with the kitty. [(-D]

Mike

Daisey .177? That is a toy. [:D]
The Beeman is a real air rifle. [;)]

Sorry, this is getting off-topic too much.
I’m glad you were able to fix it and get it to the guy. [tup]

Mike

Man I had that happen to me WHEN Ihad cats.Little suckers.I feel for ya bro.

mike , and i thought you was a religious man , kill the cat , well im dissapointed , but under the circumstances, your right mate it has to be done 2-0 to mike

Don’t worry some idiot handling a F-4E Phantom managed to drop it!!! I, I mean, that idiot realized that scale models do not fly vey well.[:(!][:(!]

Oooweee!! Ryan, I’m sorry you had that heartbreak, but I’m glad it worked out in the end!
By the way, you know how to make a cat go "woof? Gasoline and a match.
You can make a dog go “miaow” - stick him in a freezer then hit him with a bandsaw…
And those of you who are members of the SPCA need not comment.

Wow, seams a little harsh to the treatment of these cats and dogs. I don’t like where the conversations are going. Instead of thinking of ways to torture your animals for doing bad things they didn’t even know they were doing, lets think about how we ourselves can be more responsible about our models. Cats will be cats, so the only thing that will improve the safety of my models is by improving my resposiblity, not getting rid of a problem that will always be. I was not using common sense, so I blame this on me. So lets try again, anybody got any horror stories of when you let yourself down and destroyed your models?

I’m not in any animal rights activists groups or anything, I’m just surprised I let the conversations get this far…

i do feel for you ryan. that was a great build and the fact that you repaired it in a way that the damage was unseen speaks much of your abilities as a modeler. alas i have never had the sad experience, however i have had several builds destroyed because of my own actions. the latest of which was an a6m5 that i spent a great deal of time working on. had it very close to a pic that i had seen on the net. one day my children were fighting and i jumped up from where i had been working, launched the plane, broke several pieces off, got angry at myself, and launched the unfinished kit. the resulting damage was not only unrepairable but also unecessary. i still have a problem with my anger at times but i no longer get so angry i do things in reaction.

I’m just glad my cat doesn’t mess with any of my finished projects. Also glad I don’t have any kids. From what I hear they are about 10 times more curious than cats. Now about that carpet monster…
