Dong Ba Tower at The Citadel

Staying in the 'Nam for this little vignette. Here are some of the protaganists. One of the figures will be receiving a M60 MG and ammo belts. I feel like the figures will be the longest and most intricate part of this build. As always all critiques and comments are greatly appreciated.

Here are some more pics of the players.

Nice figures and really nicely painted. Looking forward to the display.

Hello! The figs are lookin’ good! So what’s the master plan for this one? Maybe can you give us some historical background?

Good luck with your projects and have a nice day!

That looks fantastic.

I am assuming it will depict the USMC attack on the Dong Ba Tower in Hue City during Tet '68.

Excellent figure painting. The facial expressions are so realistic.

Hey Gino, your assumption is correct. It won’t be a grandiose dio, just a nice vignette depicting the second assault on the tower. BTW thanks for the newseum link. Very informative. I’m glad that everyone likes the figures. Semper Fi.

You did a great job on the figures- looking forward to the rest of the dio!

I have started the work on the wall and base. The wall will get another dark wash and I need to hightlight the damaged areas before I begin the groundwork. But I like how it came out.

Well I’ve tweaked the wall. I will also be adding defoliated trees and corrugated zinc roofs. So far it’s progressing nicely.

Looks good, looking forward to seeing everything in place.

Well this vignette is done. I am very satisfied with the results but I wished I had some decent background photos of the ruins of Dong Ba Tower from 1968. But I believe this dio can stand on its own. I dedicate this diorama to the Marines, like SSgt Bob Thoms and others who took the tower, were blasted off of it and then retook it. A true testament to Marine Corps ‘esprit de corps’. Semper Fi. The first two pics are of the initial groundwork and then I weathered it, added the figures, then blended the figures into the groundwork. The only thing left to do is to stain the wooden base.

Lookin’ good! Very nice figure painting! Thanks for sharing and have a nice day

Yeah, the figures look great! And I love the overall debris and battlefield rubble. Great job all around.
