done tamiya chally 2 desertized

used my own mixeture of paint for the overall kit. iused tamiya clear red and clear blue to get the purple look for the lenses, then spayed a couple panels with a liter shad of the base to give it the look of repllaced panels. also used a sponge with blak to simulate the warn anti skid that i used mr surfacer 500 to simulate, then weatherd it with an oil wash and pastels. this was a hard dcolor to weather for me so go easy.[:D]

Rob, that’s a really nice looking Chally!

The base color looks really yellow–is that a more accurate rendering in your opinion? Is that why you mixed your own color?

Nicely detailed. With the skirts that low, wouldn’t a crew experience problems with rough or uneven terrain? That’s not a critique of your build BTW,just a question concerning a real Chally.

I read somewher… that the colors varyed so i gave it a shot it does havea real yellow to it i used raydome tan and chrome yellow i think i used to much yellow oops.

The lower part of the armor is made from fabric.

And thanks for the comments.

Rob,

I don’t know much about modern armor myself but have to agree with doog, the color does seem a bit heavy on the yellow. When mixing your own colors it’s always a good idea to remember that the “primary” colors are very strong and a little bit goes a long way. Aside from that, the weathering looks good to me along with the rest of the details. [tup]

The lower part is canvas to prevent dust being sucked into the engine and lower the dust signature when travelling over desert

Doh!

Upon closer inspection,I can see the fabric.I always thought these were solid armor.

I know less about modern armor than the stuff I actually build[:-^] so can’t comment on the color. But build-wise, well I like it and hope to see you in the armor section a lot more often.

Looks like a sweet build to me!

Hoping to actually get to take this kit out of the closet and tackle it one of these years. [;)]

thanks guys, and Marc ive got 4 more tanks in my stash, 3 have aftermarket tracks[:-^]

looks really cool. Never done one of these myself, yours is really well finished.

Congrats on a great build.

Terry.

Thanks terry this was a real jem too build.

A very well-constructed model. However, from seeing the real things fairly frequently (I live quite near to Bovington) I can tell you that the colour that the British Army paint their vehicles for desert operations has much more of a grey or pink tint than yellow. If you do a Google Image search on Challenger 2 MBT or Challenger 2 Telic, you’ll find lots of pictures.

Cheers,

Chris.

That looks really nice (to my untrained eyes). I agree that the color is a bit too yellowish but that does not take away the fact that you have done a very good job on the kit.

I like the challenger the most out of all the Modern tanks, just looks like it rolled out of a sci-fi book, and started blowin’ stuff up [(-D]. It is a little yellow, but with some dust, it might even out the color.

Fantastic Build! you’ve done this future tank justice!

thanks guys ive defenitly learned my lesson and it wont happen the next time.[swg]
