Dogfight Week on History Channel

Thought I’d give everyone a heads up…its Dogfight Week on the History Channel…

Just finished watching a 2 hour show highlighting the most spectacular dogfight in each of the major wars starring some of America’s greatest Aces…

Spad XIII Ace, Eddie Rickenbacker…WWI

P51 Mustang Ace, Bud Anderson…WWII

F86 Sabre Ace, Boots Blesse…Korea

F4 Phantom Ace, Duke Cunningham…Vietnam

Tonight’s show contained interviews with the actual pilots including Rickenbacker (audio only), historical footage and CGI generated dogfights. Fantastic show especially for some of you flightsim guys.

The link below gives the lineup of shows for the rest of this week:

By the way, I am in Canada so I’m not sure if the American counterpart History Channel has the same schedule or not…

Cheers,

RODC

I saw that show a few weeks ago on the History Channel. A very worthwhile way to spend an hour.

Regards, Rick

I like the “Legends of Airpower” and “Deadliest Airplane” on Military Channel.

Isually I programm recordings for a Week ahead and collect those (without commercials  ) on DVDs. Its a great background video for modelling time  The most I like so far are:

Legend Of Airpower - Francis Gabreski, Clair Channoult, and Richard Bong

Deadliest Airplanes - P-40, P-47

Lately I got a comparison between ME 109 and Spit during BoB. It was pretty interesting story while two pilots RAF and Luftwaffe were sharing their impression on the opposite equipment

I’m a big follower of the Digfights series. I haven’t seen that original 2 hour episode since it debuted. I’d live to see it again. I think I’ve seen all of the Season 1 episodes now…what a great idea for a show: They incorporate cutting edge computer graphics, personal accounts from participants…sometimes on both sides…historical background/facts, and air combact tactics.

I wonder what they are brewing up for Season 2?

I caught it last night and it had the best of the best on the pilot episode. Nothing was really new, just the most famous fights of them all.

Mucker, History channel here in Canada is diffrent than yours. This is the first time they are showing the series here and making a week of it. Let me get through the first season, then we’ll see about the next[:D] And yea, it’s cool!![8D] Wife’s not too happy about the surrender of the TV every night, but she is good with it and understands.[tup]

Haha…we must have married sisters, Drew. After week 3 my wife noticed that I don’t respond to any type of stimulus between 10PM and 11PM on Fridays…I knew I’d hear about it after a while, but eventually she sat down and watched a few with me. How does the 'ol saying go? Behind every addicted modeler there’s a good woman?

I’ve noticed that in my trips to the Great White North. I enjoy catching some of the programming I can’t get here. I won’t give away the next episodes, but chime back in after you see the Robinson Risner episode…I would die to find decals for his Sabre.

if you particularly like a specific show…you can buy it off of their website in DVD form…in fact, I think their entire first season of Dogfights is available as a package deal…

I guess my DVR is gonna asplode because I have it set to record this program at any time. My wife’ll be lookin’ for Home Cookin’ woth Paula and all she will see is TV about death from above! hehehehehe [:-,]

That sounds familiar. [:-^] Every time Dogfight is on, I find myself totally oblivious to everything going on around me. It’s the best regular show on TV these days, and I can’t take my eyes off it when it’s on. Love the attention to detail that the animators put into the aircraft, and the interviews with the surviving pilots tops the whole thing off.

My wife actually sat down and watched an episode with me one night. (shock and suprise) There was a guy from Louisiana explaining some sortie and he had a heavy cajun accent. Well at the end of one explination he said something to the effect that if he didn’t go back to help he would be “derelict in my duty”. My wife chuckled a bit and said, “I’ve never heard that expression before.” I looked at her quizically and said, “You haven’t heard of ‘dereliction of duty’”? She said, "OOOOHHHH… I thought he said he would have been “deer licked in my doo doo”. I laugh and laugh to this day and instead of saying, “I’m screwed” I use the phrase my wife misheard. [(-D]

Haha[party] That’s a good one. We now have a new expression in the English language! I’m sure you’ll never let her forget that!
