Just came back from Revell-Monogram.com and that didn’t help. There is no way to contact them to ask questions about their products. I would like to build “Pappy” Boyington’s Corsair. Does anyone know if this kit is available and if so, who makes it?

R/M does not make the F4U-5N. They package Hasagawa’s kit under license.
See Tamyia and Hasagawa for early Corsairs in 1/48th scale. Hasagawa has a few variations of the F4U currently available. I think Tamyia has a birdcage Corsair and an F4U-1D. Check on the Squadron website or the Great Models web site. Then you will know for sure what is available.
There are a couple of other early Corsairs, but the Hasagawa and Tamyia kits are much better. Otaki’s F4U-1D is a decent kit if you can find it. I remember seeing decals for Pappy’s Corsair but cannot remember who made them. I think Hobbycraft made a “birdcage” Corsair, but I’m not sure of that.
Hopefully someone will post a source of decals, because I would also like to do a Boyington Corasair. If I remember right he had the name Lulubelle painted on the side of the airplane. The number 88 comes to mind also.
Monogram did have a 1/48th F4u with folding wings and retractable gear, but it was more of a toy than a scale replica. rangerj
They used to have a different Corsair years ago before the merger, I don’t remember just which designation it was. And Revell had the 1/32 Corsair, you might find it on ebay or if I remember right Revell Germany has reissued this kit some time back. I built an original many years ago, lots of complaints about inaccuracies but I was young enough then that it didnt matter to me, it was one of my better paint jobs with air brush and it was hanging in my local hobby shop for a time, don’t know what happened to it from there. Acadamy has a 1/48th F4U-1D with VMF 214 decals, specifically “Pappy Boyington’s” aircraft. (the number was 86) It is kit nujmber 2147 and is currently available at Great Models Web store for about $20US. I would guess Squadron would also have it. Your local hobby shop could get it in for you. The kit retails for $24 US.

Well you can’t forget Hobbycraft’s F4U’s they go up to F4U-4’s I think and are not to bad, they go together fairly nice with little filling needed and they have the flap options for the cowl & wings and they have a full engine apposed to the Hasegawa’s & Arii’s and are alot cheaper then the Tamiya’s so it’s worth looking into
The Airfix F4u is an ARII/OTAKI re box
