Hi,
in 1976 I have visited Ontario, Canada. Now I have found this old photo of me standing in front of a post war rescue Lancaster. Does anyone out there know this bird, where it is now, photos, links etc? Must be somewhere near London Ontario, but I can`t remember where.
There was an article in the UK Flypast magazine a few months back about a Canadian Lancaster that had been taken from external display for preservation. Am not sure whether it was this one. If I can find the magazine, I will update.
This is Lancaster B.X FM213 which is now part of the Canadian Warplane Heritage museum. She is one of only two airworthy Lancs in the world at the moment and is a fairly regular flyer.
You can see the entry for FM213 in the Warbird Registry HERE…
There are some photos of FM213 on Airliners.net, including one shot showing her in the same spot as in your photo. You can see them HERE and HERE. There are some duplicate images in each set, but each was found using different searches and each include images which cannot be found in the other.
The Canadian Warplane Heritage’s website can be found HERE…
I remember when driving to Calgary and stopping in Nanton to see an old Lanc on the side of the road up on pedestals. I just vistited its webstite and see that is too is being restored to ground running condition.
I always though it was quite an eye catching display.
thanks a lot for that innfos, especially the links. I already wondered if it could be 213 from the CWM, but as you can see they have stripped it back to its war camo.Thats a bit of a shame, because the canadian rescue camo was so colorful. Anyway, I have won Decals from Belcher Bits today and will build one of those beautiful rescue birds in the near future. When finished I will show you the results.
Thanks again to all
