Dodge Deora Resto

Having built this last year, I noticed the decals starting to peel off, so decided to give it a facelift. I removed all exterior ,bed decals and windscreen chrome trim, keeping wood slatted seats. Made a black toneau cover, removed board hanger and filled hole, and repainted interior and exterior of camper shell.

Very nice job on resurecting that “oldie but goodie”. I have one burried deep in the stash. Guess I’ll have to dig it out. You’ve given me a few ideas for it.

What a strange and interesting vehicle! I don’t believe I’ve ever seen one before. Thank you for posting the photos of your nicely built model!

Thanks Jim, so having some ideas perhaps you can find yours and build it?

Good restore.

Can you tell me about the brushed aluminum panels on the original cover? I am fascinated by them.

Thanks Greg. The alloy panels were a home brewed decal. I found the image on Google/Pinterest and copied onto decal paper.

Chuck ;

The Dodge " Deora " made the rounds of the Custom car shows for some time back in the sixties . I think it was an Alexander Brothers creation .

The base was the same van as the Wheel-Stander drag van , It being based on a standard A-100 Dodge Van . . The windshield frame ( for a little history here ) was taken from a 1960 Ford full sized " Station Wagon ."

Thanks for the info Tanker-Builder.

Very interesting ride and cool update Pat.

Pat ;

I forgot to mention that the slant six in the thing had more chrome on it that my whole Studebaker Black - Hawk from 1957 !

Thanks mustang1989.

Yes Tanker-Builder so did this one!

This was one of my favorite Hotweels cars (behind the ‘Jack Rabbit Special’ and the rescue truck from the TV show ‘Emergency’). I still have several Deoras as well as this reissued kit (unbuilt).

I like the bright red camper cover. If I ever get to building mine, I’d do it with the flat cover with surf boards like the Hotwheels car.

Thanks Rob.
