Been combing the Internet for pics of the fire hose racks used on DKM vessels…no luck. Anybody got some pics of 'em? Wondering if perhaps the racks available on most 1/350 PE ship sets would work for a commerce raider (Atlantis)…like, is there a generic rack produced by anyone? Assistance appreciated.

Are you talking about the hoses that hang on the wall or reels that sit on the deck or mount to a wall?
Those are usually used for mooring lines, etc…altho, I understand they were often used for winding up fire hose. Don’t know if you’ve used this (Tom’s) PE set, but they’re very thin and fragile. Thanks for your input.
I’m referring to the fire hose racks - the ones one usually sees in the PE sets for ships are flaked over a “post” and one end attached to a fire main. I’ve seen in DKM photos what looks like a length of fire hose rolled up and placed in a “web” type rack and hung on the bulkhead near a fire main. I’m wondering if the generic ones, as described above would suffice.
Seeing how little reference photo material exists on Atlantis, a generic PE hose rack would be hard to disprove. Not to mention how small of a detail that is on such a subject relatively speaking. I understand the desire to get everything just right. But sometimes we are stuck with best guess.
I’ve used some Toms PE, but on aircraft mostly. No complaints from me about their stuff there.
Regarding Atlantis, no idea but I’d expect more merchant than warship.
Like a building. A valve with a canvas hose either bundled in a basket on the deck or hanging zig-zag on a thing like a tie rack.
On a more general take, I’ve never understood those big reels to be for fire hoses. More like rubber hoses for UNREP, cables for mooring. They take up a lot of deck space.
The PE reels also have a fundamental problem- they are empty. I usually solve that by replacing the wire axle (not included anyhow) with a short section of styrene rod closer to the diameter of the reel wheels.
I know what you mean about the empty hose reels: take some styrene rod a bit smaller in diameter than you would normally use…using appropriately-sized non-fuzzy sewing thread wrap the thread tightly around the rod and apply thin superglue to the entire thread, let dry then slice off a piece and attach it to the reel ends. I use the NWSL “Chopper” to get good, even cuts - can’t seem to cut straight with just a hobby knife.
I think you can see a red hose reel in a bracket on the bulkhead, between the 6" turret and the whaler boat on this model of Bismarck.

Kagero has books on the DKM ships . Now if you are lucky , they will still have the three-dee glasses in them . I have one on the Bismark that’s awesome . It will help you a lot I am sure . T.B.
