i would just stick them in some sort of old container and toss them in the garbage…maybe stick them in an old box or something…
no, but i can suggest lots of irresponsible ways [}:)][}:)][}:)]
seriously tho, how bout putting em in an empty 35mm film conatiner, and when its full u can throw it out…
At one time I put then in an old medicine bottle with a locking cap. Now I take them to work and throw them in the used blade receptical there
I always used an empty soda can. I paint the top of it red so I don’t grab it by mistake though.
I drop them in an empty plastic soda bottle and screw the cap on tight. Just remember not to throw it in with the rest of the plastic recyclables.
I do the soda can trick, and sometimes I buy them in a cylindrical container that I will reuse for disposal as well.
i usually wrap mine in a small piece of tape
but if you got alot, stick em in a jar
Scalpel blades should be classed as true “sharps” and as you noted disposed of responsibly. I would suggest you take them to your Veterinarian, Chemist, Doctor etc and ask them nicely to dispose of them for you. All these groups would have designated sharps containers thus ensuring safe disposal[2c].
I’ve got my dad’s honing block, which is a big grey thing. Add a drop of oil, run the #11 blade back and forth relatively slowly and voila! New blade from old.
I take my dremel and put in the roughest sanding drum, and then grind the edge of my blade so it looks like a triangle with round edges, yaknow
throw some sparks!
I live in an older home that has medicine cabinets installed in the bathrooms that include a slot labeled “used razor blades” … you know the old fashioned “safety razor” blades … dropping my used xacto blades into this slot gives them a safe “burial” inside the wall cavity. I am not sure that newer medicine cabinets have this slot … most razors today are of the newer disposable kind … just take a quick look in your medicine cabinet at home and see if you have a blade cemetery in your bathroom … [swg]
The X-acto No. 11 blades that I buy come in a small dispenser that has a slot for used blades. [:D]
Regards,
I have a bunch of the little plastic cups that restaurants use to hold salsa, ketchup, parmesan cheese or whatever for take-out food. I just use one of those and when it’s full, throw it away. Once in a great while, I’ll fish out one of those used blades (VERY carefully!), dull the blade further by scraping it on the concrete sidewalk outside my door and then put it in my putty knife.
Take an empty plastic bottle of your favorite soft drink or water and clean it out. Cut the bottlew into two pieces; you want to cut it right where the bottle straightens out. Take the top, with it’s curved shape, turn it over (cap off of course) and insert it into the bottle. tape it secure and there you have it - an easy to deposit bin for used blades. As long as it’s not full of blades, your old ones will never fall out.
Old Listerine Pocket Paks containers! Usually by the time I finish a pack, I’ve also “finished” a blade!
I use an old coffee jar with a slot cut into the lid which is sealed with 2 part epoxy glue been using it for the past 5 yrs and it’s only half full and kept out of the reach of little stubby fingers.
Happy Modelling.
Regards panzermann.
Well… I just… ummmmm… toss them in the garbage.

I have a tool that is designed to sharpen #11 blades with the blade in the handle. It works very well, but I’ve had it long enough I really don’t know where I got it (may have got it at the big flea market we have here every year in June - find a lot of modeling tool bargains there - last years big buy was #61 to #80 drill bits for 5 bucks a set).
I believe that Micro Mark sells the same Item - you might check there.
I put my used blades in a 35mm film can that has been painted red and dispose them at the dump.
I use a pop bottle. All i did was cleaned the thing out, then cut a small slit in the lid. I can just drop em in!
