Diorama First and Second Attempt

I have decided to have a go at doing a Diorama. Having tried different materials with mixed success, this is my second attempt at a Diorama.

My first attempt used mainly wood to create a barn with a Pz IV and infantry I have included a photo here.

My second attempt uses plaster to create a French street scene. This is a work in progress, so I have posted a photo of the work so far.

Comments, good or bad, would be appreciated

That looks really good,I like the painting of the buildings and the roads. One comment is that the commander is in his winter coat, but the scene looks pretty plush.
For the building, maybe your planning to,but add some loose things, tools, barrel, maybe a cat or dog.

A tip I learned back in the from Shep Paine’s “Tips on Building Dioramas” is that if you have a rectangular base, avoid lining things up with the sides of the base. If you have a street scene, for example, or a building, don’t align the edge of the street, or the wall of the building with the base’s sides. Angle them, to provide better visual interest.

Here’s a photo of his diorama for Monogram’s B-17G kit, to illustrate. Note how the runway and the aircraft are at angles to the sides of the base.

Great efforts so far! Nice details and finishes. I agree with the comments about angling the subject so it does not parallel the edges of the diorama. I would add that while you don’t want a lot of empty space, don’t crowd too much into the diorama either. The Panzer IV is wedged between the building and the edge of the diorama so some of your work on both the building and vehicle will be hard to see. It is also challenging to provide context for the action in the scene if there is not enough space to work with. You clearly have the skills, perhaps just a bit more work on composition.

You’re right, I am still struggling with the composition. I focus too much on the buildings and not enough on the overall composition. I really should spend more time in the planning stage. I have been spending my time refining my skills and not enough time thinking about the result.
