can anyone point me in the right direction for finding materials for making realistic dioramas. i am kind of new at modeling, and read fsm monthly, but i don’t know where to find most of the materials they talk about. mainly the building materials for the scene, i.e., the ground, buildings, snow and so on. please help, as i am really interested in building these scenes.
A really good reference source is Moddeling Materclass, both Terrains and Buildings. Terrific books for this kind of things. Also, Shep Paine’s Dioram book is a very good book as well

You can look in the train section of your hobby shop for Woodlans Scenics products. They make various ground cover, trees, snow, etc., etc. For buildings, Verlinden is a great place to get ready to assemble buildings and actually, whole dioramas.

Good luck and happy modeling.
Welcome to the forums sgtc76. A local source, and probable tips on doing dioramas can also be your local model railroad store if you have one availible. Like ted recommended though, a good starting point is to get yourself a good book on dioramas, and general model set construction. Semper Fi, mike
I get most of my supplies from the following stores:
Hobby Shop
DIY Shop
Art Supply Store
Model Railroad Store
Dollhouse supply store
Electronic store.
[#ditto] about everyone elses comments.
Some of the good sources are close at hand. I use dirt, sand, painted/washed sawdust and other stuff from right in my own yard. Cook the dirt and sand in your oven to kill all the microscopic little critters first though [:0]
Not trying to lead anyone away from the armor forum but for information, the techniques forum is the best. For inspiration and ideas the diorama forum is the place. But be sure to come back to the armor forum.
