I picked up the Academy Hornet at a deep discount yesterday, and plan to replicate an NAS Fallon NSAWC 'Bug, which 2Bobs has a sheet for (-18A).The kit, as you well know, depicts a -18C. Not being a “jet guy”, I wouldn’t know if the O2 regulators were still blue or not(kidding…even I know they are!). What are the differences between the two variants? Is it a major undertaking to backdate the Academy kit, or a fairly straightforward affair?
I would really appreciate the time and advice of anyone “in the know” of such matters, as I am just in the early stages of research recon…
Largest difference between the “A” and “C” models is the avionics package. There are more ECM “blisters” on the “C” than on the “A”…(2) on the nose area and (2) behind the canopy on the spine. Certain Lot “Cs” can also accept the F404-402 engine…little more power than the F404-400 (440 and 640/650 shop guys…chime in if I’m missing something).
Also the cockpit, for example the seat is black and not dark grey, and plus different electronics. my dad happens to work on F/A-18 A’s in the Marine Corps so if you have further questions i could get most of the answers.
ok gunney…ask if the f/a-18A’s cockpit/canopy is the same as the f/a-18C??.
I am trying to use testors f/a-18A’s spine/cockpit/canopy on a Rev/Mono f/a-18c.
Please email me if you find the answer.
Thanks,
