You may remember Yeehah and I were working on a Spitfire T9 IAAC kit in 48th scale.
I did some chopping (donor kit was the Airfix/ARII/Otaki MkVIII) - it needed a lot of work.
It was painted 2 weeks ago, gloss aluminium( thats how you spell it guys) and is ready for decals and finishing.
I bought a copy of Scale Aircraft Modeling today.
I started from the back, and worked my way forward.
I got to page 2 to see that Brigade models have chosen to mark the occasion by releasing a conversion in both 72nd and 48th.

That is known as “Murphy’s Law” in modelling. I did that a long time ago with an Otaki P-51 D Mustang. I built a proper dog house for the radiator and did the plumbing and everything for the drop tanks, dropped the flaps, I went nuts on the interior and then Monogram comes out with their P-51 D which blew the Otaki away. The Hasegawa and Tamiya both come out with P-51 D’s that kept raising the bar. “Murphy’s Law of Modelling”.
Put me down for a 1/48th scale Spitfire T9 conversion kit. It is about time that someone woke up and saw the need for a model of that odd version that will fill in a gap in the Spitfire line.

I was working on Revell’s 1/32 Mig-21, correcting its deficiencies for a long time. I got far enough with it that it would have been a waste to quit when the Trumpeter kit hit the shelves.

Well, well har har har, Oggy! Red faced Yeehah here to say I was fit to spit when I saw the announcement by Brigade! After all the crap we went through (cutting, sanding the Aires cockpit to fit it’s new location, searching for, finding and modifying a suitable canopy for the rear cockpit) to get this to look right and Brigade bring out a 1/48 scale version that may also have the Irish Air Corp decals with it, too.
I felt as sick as a dog. But, the article says that canopies with the Brigade release are Vacform, so there might be two, one of which will find it’s way onto my build.
The plus side is, once I buy hte Brigade kit ( and i will buy it ), I’ll have two Tr IX’s, one alu, one green.

I once spent countless hours detailing my Monogram B-17, putting in new structure, oxygen bottles and even scratch building bomb bay doors and flaps from scratch… then Verlinden came out with its B-17 detail set. It had almost everything that I scratch built. The worst was the number of hours I had spend on the ribing for hte bay doors which are not just simple styrene strips, but rather complex curves mind you and each one is only about 1" by 1/16" in size. I actually considered buying the conversion kit anyway, just so I don’t have to build the second door.
The Revell 1/32 scale RF-4C did not have any detail at all in the cockpits. I scratch built the side consoles and area behind the seats. Added wireing for the rear instrument panel. I just finished all of the work when Verlinden released the up date. I bought the up date because I had another kit of the same model. The work I did looked better and had more items added, not included in the Verlinden kit.
Add me to Murphy’s list. I had been working on the Revell F-8 Crusader. This thing had already consumed a ton of my time and would have long ago found itself in the trash if I didn’t like F-8s so much. I scratch built a cockpit. Added custom plumbing in the wheelwells and the refueling probe housing. I was only a day or two away from paint when I learned Hasegawa would be releasing a 1/48 Crusader.
The straw on the camel’s back…when I removed the jigs I had made from the wingtips to keep them straight while gluing, the wing sagged because the glue had not totaly set. As soon as that happen, after all that had already gone wrong with the kit, I just tossed it into the trashcan. I didn’t even salvage parts off it for the spares box. It was probably the most disgusted I have ever been with a model.
