In my quest to cover as many Sherman variants as I can, I started an M4A3, remanufactured as part of the “Blitz” program that updated early M4s (and I thought M4A3s) with all the improvements derived from combat experience as preparation for the MW Europe campaigns. Now I can’t find a single pic of such a unit in action, and I have a fair amount of reference material concerning the M4…any help?
Here’s a pic of where I am so far… it’s supposed to be an early M4A3, as used for training in the States, with applique hull and turret cheek armor, EECs and a loader’s hatch on an early high-bustle turret. It’s the old MP hull on a Tamiya lower hull.
Beauty! I actually have the one pic of the several Shermans on Okinawa, forgot all about it! The pics of the units in the ETO are great as well, new to me.
Many thanks, Roy, I feel better now. That’s one of the hazards of having too many WIPs, makes you forget where the idea/reference/motivation for a project came from. Now all I need are some DS tracks and I’m good to go.[:D]
A little progress. I didn’t like the turret, long story, so I pulled an Italeri part out of the parts stash and did a later unit, with the integral cheek armor. I may be fudging here but I wated to try it. Some blending and texturing of entire the turret still to be done. DS tracks are fitted (removed two links) and I changed the drive sprocket for the AFV Club part. Tools and stowage, and I can paint. Long build here, it’ll be good to finish this one.
Thanks again, Roy. The pic link you put up helped me hugely here.
