Getting ready to build the USS England (DE-635). Painting (of course) calls for Navy Blue on all vertical surfaces and Deck Blue on all horizontal surfaces. Planning on doing some weathering on the model, don’t know how much yet; may depend on your answers. Is Deck Blue just Navy Blue with some gray in it, or is it a different shade of blue entirely? To show fading I plan on mixing in some light gray color of some sort; is that correct and would one gray be better than another? The pictures (in gray scale) I can find of the England seem to show it a rather light to medium blue. Did they fade that bad or is that just the pictures?

I saved these two pics (below) from the Shipcamouflage.com website long ago.
Do you do airbrushing? Do you use acrylic paints? If Yes to both questions, Squadron.com website has Scale Colors paints that will have the accurate colors you need.

On my USS Helena CL-50, I used the following colors from @WhatIfRebel’s charts:
I was basing the choice on what I had read and primarily this picture:
(which, I believe is of the heavy cruiser.)
I liked the dark look in that photo.
My Helena ended up looking like:
I tried to do a light dry brushing/weathering but thought it lightened things up too much. There is just a hint of it remaining above the waterline but by in large I chickened out.
I do like the combo in hand but it is very dark and doesn’t photo very well.

USS England was is Measure 21, as was USS New Jersey in this photo. The Deck Blue looks to weather to a more grayed out darker shade here
