I’m putting this in armor because that’s what I’m putting it on, so I apologize if it’s in the wrong place.
I’m currently building Tamiya’s M1A? Abrams, MRC AH-1W, and Hobbycraft’s Humvee. For a Desert paint scheme, they all say use: Desert Sand. But, all say different FS numbers!!! I have some Testor’s Modelaster Desert Sand Paint that has a fourth different FS number. Will this paint do?
Testors Model Master Desert Sand is a great match for a US Army M1A1 or M1A2 or a HMMWV. I can’t say for the AH-1W.
Model Master Desert Sand is a good choice. However, they also carry a Gulf War Sand (can’t remember the exact name) which is actually a perfect colour match for the US desert equipment.
Thanks, I’m not looking for perfection and I already have the Desert Sand, so I’ll try it and see.The only other modelmaster listing I found said “Armor Sand: US Army/MC Gulf War”. My hobby shop doesn’t carry it.
Yep that’s the one. Too bad they don’t carry it, as it really is a very very nice finish. Really though, doesn’t really matter, as the Desert Sand is more than good enough as well [:)]
Howdy fellas, don’t mean to butt in, but I was wondering what Tamiya acrylic would work best for this subject?
(same question, different brand)[;)]
Only one I can think orf off the top of my head is tamiya buff .
OH ya I think it is only in spray canns but it is called light sand # TS-46
I was hoping someone would say that.[:D] I’m switching over to acrylics and I already purchased the buff. I bought it for the M2 Bradey (OD scheme), now I can use it on my Abrams as well. Thanks Thundergod. -Cheers
I haven’t tried Tamiya paints to often. The closest Hobby Shop that does is over three hours away. I just got a Squadron catalog, so I might start getting some, but I do have good results with Modelmaster.
I’ve gotten pretty results from ModelMaster. Their “Acryls” are good also. In fact, I have mostly MM and regular Testor’s enamels. Just recently started using Tamiya since I discovered the forum.
