I know this ? is an oldy, but it’s new to me: Who makes a good match for the desert pink the RAF used in Desert Storm? Is there a specific color made up for that conflict, or is it “on the books” as it were? I need it for a SB 2 Buccaneer.
I suppose I should put this on the paint site.

The best match I’ve been able to find and use is Xtracolors version of “Desert Pink” (#X032). I don’t have an image available to show the 3 aircraft I’ve completed so far using this color. (2 Jaguar GR.1’s and a Tornado GR.1).
Great paint to use though hard to find. I’ve bought several tinlets to keep as I have a Buccaneer, another Tornado and some RAF helo’s I would like to build to represent the RAF/RN in the 1st Gulf War of 1991. In the US I’ve been getting it though Roll Models and Brookhurst Hobbies here in So. Cal.

Yep, absurd as it is, I’ll have to take your que, Chuck – not to fly Navy, though I’ve got nothing against the Sqidulous ones, but to order the color from a West Coast Hobby shop, since here in the self-proclaimed Center of the Universe we don’t have a halfway adedquately stocked hobby shop. Thanks,
Tom
When I did my Desert Storm RAF Jaguar over a decade ago, I used a matte shade of desert pink/sand made by Humbrol at the time. Since then, one of their factories has burnt down and I think the color is discontinued… I can give you a tip though: do check your references because not all planes were exactly the same color, and the colors faded quickly. The Tornados got really grimy too, because of the thrust reversers.

Check out this link. My favorite reference on the Bucc (and other RAF COld War types).[8D]

This might help you as well. Apparently, "Desert Pink’ was to an American standard, FS30279. I have a part tin of theXtracolor paint and it matches the color chip almost perfectly. I built a Tornado and with all the weathering, the standard didn’t matter because it changed the color!
