Hi everyone, i’ve just purchased a set of decals for a 1/72 Delta Dart F-106A, and being from the land down-under I’m finding it difficult to locate pics for colour markings including the cockpit for this particular Sq. the decals are for a Convair F-106A Delta Darts Air Defence Weapons Ctr., & ADC, 456th FIS, in 1/72nd scale, made by SuperScale Decals. I hope this is enough info and hopefully someone can help.
I’ll be building the old Hasegawa 1/72 kit from the 80’s as I got it pretty cheap from e-bay.
ah! These things used to fly over my house when I was a kid. We were right under the final approach to greater Pittsburgh airport where they were based. Early on they would sometimes break the sound barrier. The wall in the hallway of the house I grew up in still bears remnants of the floor-to-ceiling crack in the plaster from one such event.
I picked up a 1/48 F-102 and an F-106 to build for my nostalgia
The Century Series fighter articles from the Wings of Fame series were all compiled into a hardcover book called Century Series Fighters or something like that. It’s a great compliation and I highly recommend you track one down if you’re at all interested in building F-106’s.
Yes. That’s the one. It has markings for esentially all air units that used the equipment in addition to great cutaway drawings and detailed photos of each type of aircraft covered. I found mine at a half priced book store in Dallas and paid less than $10 for my copy.
Zapme, I have 4 publications on the 106, and of the 4 I would highly recommend that you try to hunt up 2 of them. The very best one I think is called " Famous Airplanes of the World 11 No.128 November 1981. Although all of the text is in Japanese the issue has 64 pages of color and B&W photos, line drawings of the inner and outer areas of the aircraft, and drawings of all the units that used the 106. If your in to the 106 you " Must " try to get a copy of this book. The publisher was BUNRIN-DO. You may have some luck on E-Bay. The next best I think is Squadron / Signal Publications F-106 Delta Dart in Action. Aircraft # 15. Copyright 1974, ISBN Book # 0-89747-014-1. If you can find em you wont be disappointed. Good Luck. Dennis
I’m going to have to start stocking up at Half Price Books then I guess. I literally paid like $9.98 last year for a copy. I swear I see it every once in a while at the half price books all around the Dallas area although I mostly go to the main store.
At the Cedar Hill store I found ALL of the Wings of Fame series sitting on a shelf and they were marked $5.98 each. I offered $4.00 each and the manager said yes plus I had a 20% off coupon to boot.
I go to half price two or three times a month just to look for reference books.
The Half-Price Books in my area kinda’ sucks. I hardly ever find any good books there. They do have about 100 copies of Osprey’s US Navy F-18 units in Operation Iraqi Freedom, however.
The 106 hasn’t really received the attention it deserves in the publishing field. The Century Jets book mentioned earlier is the best reference I’ve found, but I sure would love to see a Don Logan-like book focusing on the Six!!
I guess I’ve been spoiled by having the main store in Dallas close enough to visit often. I have three or four areas of the store. You’re right about sometimes seeing many copies of the same ole thing but there are still gems to be found almost every time I go.
Another book you can get is the Detail & Scale F-106. It has a ton of good reference pics plus it gives a run down on the 106 kits that were available at the time of printing. I got mine from Squadron for 2.99 plus shipping and handling.
I haven’t found much in the way of PE and resin for the 106 though. There is one set of 6 assorted resin seats that has one for the 106, but I’m not paying 20 bucks for it when I only need the one seat.
