hi hope somebody has good advice on putting decals on rubber tires, I know on painted plastic to put on a gloss coat of some kind before putting decal on, but would you do that on rubber? also what would you use to seal after the decal is on, a dull coat or flat finish?
Can’t help you there for I’ve never heard of putting decals on rubber/vinyl tires.
Should be the same process I would think. You’ve got me curious now.
Got it here. Got to the link below and look at the last post by Tony (taxtp).

I have never built a kit with decals for rubber tires. Usually, the script is molded into the tire.
Every once in a while there’s a need for it when the kit tires are crap or the wrong size. I’ve got a 66 Barracuda that I’m getting ready to work on that had such an issue. I found the size tires that I want but I’m going to have to sand the script off of it and decal the side wall with an Eagle GT script.
69 Dodge Daytona requires the red ring decal to be put on their tires. I hope Dogg shows up how in his thread because I’m building the same car.
That problem is a tough one. I have heard of several ideas- none has worked for me. Dry transfers seem to work much better than decals. If the lettering or design is raised, then it is much easier to hand paint, but then the problem becomes what to paint it with if the tires are vinyl. If styrene or resin, no problem but painting vinyl tires is a real b***h!
Yeah, they are Don. I remember back in my youth, vinyl tires had raised lettering. I used a toothpick to paint them. Later on, I simply put some white paint on a card stock, spread them down, then press the vinyl tires on top to paint the raised lettering. It wasn’t too bad but it took a long time to dry using enamel paint before acrylics were available to the hobby in the 70s.
I’m working on a 66 GTO it has red wall decals that are too big for the tire but they do go on nice
Red ring tires! I almost forgot about them. They were really cool, I had them on my 64 Mercury Monterrey way back when!!!
Thanks mustang1989 for the link that answered my question about decals on rubber
