I’m working on a pair of 1/48th fighters and need some suggestions re: available decals. One is an American, for which I need round white fuselage numbers, not the usual angled corners. The other is German, for which I need a variety of styles and sizes of balkan crosses. Can anyone point me to such sheets available on the market?
Except those are not Balkenkreuz.
If the bar cross is what you want, there was a wide variety of types between 1916 and 1945. It helps to be more specific about your model subject and era, hopefully even find photos.
One of the more recent offerings of Balkenkreuz:
There are suggested sizes to use with associated aircraft, but you should check photo references on your specific subject for further accuracy. Some other brand names to look out for are Kits-World, Techmod, and Super Scale International.
regards,
Jack
I usually do a search on eBay for decals. As GM and the others have noted, look for “Balkenkreuz”, not “Balkankreuz”. The name comes from the root “Balke”, which is a wooden beam. It’s related to “balcony”-think of a platform on wooden beams jutting from the side of the building.
EagleCal might have decal sets you can use, too. I’ve used their sets in the past, and the decals were easy to work with, settled down easily. Their website is here:

Geez, 5 years in Architecture school and 40 years in practice- I never knew that.
Thanks, Brad!

They come out really well if you think things through first.
