decales

I thought that I posted this question earlier, but I cant find it. I have a P-47 ready to decal, it is flat paint, do I want to spray a clear glossy coat on first then after spray it with dull coat. Any info will be appreciated. Richard

Decals don’t adhere well to a flat painted surface & are prone to silvering. It’s best to put a gloss top coat on before decaling. I use Future, but other clear gloss mediums can be used. After decaling, when the decals have cured, I usually put another light coat of gloss to seal them in. When all is cured, finish off with a flat coat of your choice. I use Polly Scale flat acrylic.

I concur. I spray on Future before applying decals, makes a great gloosy, smooth surface for the decals. Then I seal the decals with another coat of Future which also provides a good base for the oil paint wash I apply next. When this is done, then I spray on the dull or flat coat and do some more weathering; exhaust stains, paint chipping, etc.
