Decal problem

Hello fellows,

I’m using a LH set of decals for my Su27, in particular there is one that goes on top of a PE grill. After several applications of Micro Sol and Hobsco Decal Set I just can’t make the decal to conform to the grill. Any suggestion?

Thanks
GG

The only thing I can think of would be to paint it on the grill. Thats a tuff situation

If the decal is going over flat paint, try putting future first, let it dry, put the decal, and put another coat of future to seal it.

Just a thought.

Decals do settle down much better on Future or Glosscoat-after the setting solution’s dry-hit with it Dullcoat-or a hammer if this didn’t work!

I put my decals in WET Future. Have been for years with little to zero silvering. Future also works like a mild micro sol, softening the decals. It pulls decals right into the cracks as it’s drying. It is kind of scary trying it the for first time cause it kind of defies the logic of patient modeling, but trust me, works like a charm.

Hi All,

I have the same problem with a P-38. I have applied Mr.Mark softer, but when the decals dried, they still wrinkled. I subsequently applied several coats of Mr. Softer, and also went and bought any available make of decal setting solution, to no avail.

Totally agree with thehannaman. I put them in wet future all the time. I may help them along by genlty pushing them down after a minute or so, using a damp paper towel. After a day, they are snuggled down like a Downey bear in a laundry basket of clean towels. As a last resort, use Champ decal set. This stuff is really agressive. Just put a little dab on the decal only. Repositioning the decal after application can’t be done, will destroy the decal. However, you can help it with a damp towel by carefully pushing the decal down, if needed. Reapply Future after it drys for a day or two. About the only decal Champ has a hard time with is those wonderful Monogram decals a few years back that are in the B-36 and the early Babalon 5 star fighters.

hi Guys,

thanks for that, just one question though…when do you put the decals in future, before applying them, I suppose???

Does anyone know if Champ decal set is available in the land Down-Under??

Thanks again to all and regards

Grills tend to be a problem when decaling - I usually shoot the area with Future, then apply the decal and coat with Micro Sol - After it’s dry (24 hrs), I go back and with a sharp (new) Exacto blade, slice the decal in the area between the louvers (or grill lines) followed by another application of Micro Sol - this usually drops the decal down between the lines - I then touch up those areas with paint the same color as the decal and once that’s dry, add a dark wash.
