My husband was on this ship 38 years ago. He asked for a model kit of it for Christmas, to start a retirement hobby. But I can’t find even an Adams-class destroyer model kit that’s currently available, let alone this specific ship. But I did find this website. [:D] Help please!
The Adams-class destroyer model kit is very difficult to find. The only one still on the market is a 1:350 scale resin model by Iron Shipwrights.
I will not recommend any resin model for a beginner modeler.
There is only one plastic model of the Adams class destroyer in 1:700 scale that I know about. The Dragon Model 7059, which was an re-issue of a much older Skywave (1958) model, in 2006. It has long been out of production and very difficult to find.
Dragon also released the DDG-21 Cochrane which is even more difficult to find. See the plastic model database here:

I hope that someone who has this model stash away will contact you. Good luck.
Pit Road/Skywave (waterline), and Dragon (full hull), both released this kit. Dragon made a premium version too with extra parts to make it Greek, Austrailian, German or American. The same mold was also used to re-issue the kit as USS Cochran. Revell also used the same Skywave mold and sold the kit as German Navy’s DDG Rommel. The Revell kit Can Be Made Into the USS Cochran! The extra parts are in the kit!
You are Lucky:
There is still a 1/700 Revell Rommel kit on ebay.
( I did PM you with this info days ago as well as info on the Resin kit. Note: L’Arsenal also released a resin kit that is very good. Not available now but may show up on eBay type sites.)
Good Luck .
If you have no luck getting the 1/700 model kit, and you do not want the 1/350 Iron Shipwright offering, Contact me again or PM your Email address to me or Warshipguy. We can help you out.

Funny This !
Guys , here’s one for you .I live with the Cochran Family . The man of the house now gone to another life by his choice , was in the Navy . I wonder if the ship was named for one of his relatives .Neither of the ladies has heard orf the U.S.S. Cochran ! T.B.
TB, That would be a Hoot if they are relations.
No Hoot on this Thread though. I’m still hopful the poster will pickup that Revell Adams Class ROMMEL kit before it is gone or let us know if they went for the ISW kit. Dang sure Warshipguy or I can come to their rescue if it comes down to the wire. Still, I was hoping to hear back.
I do hope she understands the parts in the box are all the same for Adams/Cochran/Rommel. (EDIT: except for decals!)
So, if that Cochran family is related, and if those ladies make cookies, I have an idea for you …
Jim
USS Cochrane was named for Vice Adm Edward Cochrane.
Vice Admiral Edward Lull Cochrane (March 18, 1892 - November 14, 1959) was a United States Navy officer and noted naval architect who served as Chief of the Bureau of Ships during World War II. In this capacity, he was directly responsible for the Navy’s massive shipbuilding and maintenance program from November 1942 until November 1946.
Surface_line, Thanks for that bit of History on Vice Admiral Cochrane. I should have known that. That’s the guy who helped us win the war at Sea.
Looks like our FSM Log-in problem affected even the newest members.
I just heard back from the OP and have PM’ed back.
She is still hopeful for a 1/700 Dragon USS Cochran.

A copy of the Dragon model is now available. Act quick.
That’s nice to find her, K.
Thanks to everyone that has helped me with this! I should have one on the way to me, but if not I can get this latest one on ebay. Not in time for Christmas, but his birthday is in February, so that works too. [:D]
Elsewhere on that eBay page/frequently bought together is a Shanghai Dragon boxing of the Cochrane. Shanghai is another business name of Dragon Models Limited. The plastic in the box will be the same
Trouble is that the kit is listed as started. That could be good or bad not knowing the quality of the start. The item also comes with a Flagship PE set - probably not what the OP’s husband would want to jump into first kit out of the gate
My recommendation to the OP would be to go with the $35 dollar item & free shipping and minimize potential hassles with the starter kit
My opinion plus 5 bucks gets you a cup of coffee at Starbucks
Another option is to get him a ready made, custom built model of the destroyer. It is somewhat expensive, from $1000 and up, dependent on the size/scale you want.

He can start the hobby of building one later.
That’s a nice model. The AN/SQS-23 Sonar dome is in the right place for the C.F. Adams. I believe it is wrong for the Cochrane. Wonder if they will make corrections depending on the ship?
