Dawn of the Jet Age GB

Are things noticeably different visually between a F-2 and the F-4?

I was just looking at line drawings and photos and the are different. Tails are shaped differently and the F-4 or 5 is longer. The kit definitely is a F-4 or F-5.

Do you have any WIP pics of the 1/72 B1? I’ve been eyeballing it and was wondering how it was.

Hey MC, not currently but I was planning on taking some before I close up the model, which cross your fingers should be sometime this long weekend. So I’ll see about posting them when I get a chance!

Off hand I’d strongly recommend the kit. Looks like they raised the price since I bought mine but still it’s a big box stuffed with sprues so you get your money’s worth. And a complete interior, even the engines are about five parts apiece. It’s the one in the Promodeler box, I think the Revell of Germany kit is the same but it’s about ten dollars more expensive for the same model with different decals. As I’m replacing the decals I really don’t care.

Revell Promodeler B-17G

Thanks Gamera,

Can’t wait to see it. Now I have a dilemma. Do I build my B47 for my Boeing GB next year, or the Revell B17. Maybe I do both.

Had the day off from work and got a little done on the F-86. Mostly cemented together the intake trunk and tailpipe and then poured some Mr. Surfacer down them which will hopefully seal the gaps.

please add me with a 1/72 Fujimi Cutlass. I will be staring soon.

I sure will. I’ve been having trouble editing the roster, but I’ll get it figured out.

Sounds pretty cool there PJ!

Btw: Has anyone else besides me already started? Sorry I haven’t gotten more done but I poured on the Mr. Surfacer pretty thick and want to make sure it’s really dry all the way though before I try sanding out the rough areas inside the intakes.

I was going to start on mine tonight but I found some pe for my model so I have to wait for it to arrive.

Being the host of this and what not, I do feel alittle bad about not really being able to dive into my jet plane until around the turn of the year. Who knows, maybe I will be able to do some interior work or something… Until then, a small teaser of what I’ll be putting together… 1983 boxing of Monograms F-80, which will be back dated to a pre-Korea F-80A. And ancient Micro-scale decals.

And if I have tume after that 1984 boxing (LOVE Monogram’s mid-80’s box art work) of the F-84F, with Aeromaster decals.

OK, I have made my kit choice, but will not likely be able to start it before the end of the year. I am gonna build the 1/48 Hobbycraft Vampire Mk.I

Great model choices fellas. I have that F-80 kit and it has some great molded details.

Couple of evenings back I took the Cutlass out of the stash and began to research as I usually do before a build. The kit is very well made and the cockpit is decent OOB as is but during my search of cockpit images I came across a beautiful cockpit pe set. I was really excited as no one has made pe details for this particular model till apparently last year. It is made by Eduard for a company called RS-IM. Apparently UMM is the only one stocking it and gave it’s owner John Vojtech a call and ordered a set from him.

Started my Cutlass. This is truly a very nice kit.

Here is the pe fret made by Eduard for RES-IM. It elevates the cockpit detail tremendously. It also has details for the landing gear.

The IP and side consoles have finely detailed raised instruments that would have looked fantastic painted but they had to be shaved off so the pe parts can properly fit.

The tub got the pe details which are a bunch of folded thin metal pieces and glued with thick ca.

I removed the molded belts from the seat and the clunky headrest then added the leg restraint loops from thin electronic wire. The loops may look too thick but the reference pictures I saw showed them to be on the hefty side.

more to come.

Looks good PJ!

Thanks Gamera. Can’t wait till I shoot Alclad Polished Aluminum on this Cutlass!

Pj, thats gonna look pretty dang great! Awesome work on the PE too. That would have been such a sexy jet had they not jacked the cockpit 2 stories high.

Hey PJ,

I’m pretty sure you can help me with this. I’m doing research for the Me262A “JV44” I’m doing for this build, and I can’t seem to find any RLM81 Brown Violet or RLM82 Light Green. Do you have any ideas for substitutions?

Steve

Hey crazy, Model master makes both rlm 81 & 82. Some people aren’t fond of Model master enamels, and some people swear by them. The rlm colors do seem to dry a tad glossy, but a flat coat takes care of that. Surely others make those shades as well.

Thanks,

I’ll check Model Master.
