ok just one quick question? who in the[}:)] invented indy tracks for us treadheads. its bad enought they give us parts that can be tweezer launched into space. but no some [}:)] modeler has to go just a little bit farther into detail. i know this is my frist time dealing with them but doing ok but real slow progess. but i think i have figured out a soultion i am going to buld me a jig to hold the and keep them straight. that way i can speed up the progess of this slow and agonizing step in modeling. sorry ladies and gents jsut needed to vent a little and to all a good nite.[:D][:D]
Which tracks are you building??
I prefer the workable tracks over the plain indy tracks, normally assemble them in sections of 10 + 2 shorter sections and than join them to the full length track afterwards.
My first armour peice was an M60 with the passive armor about 10yrs or so ago. They ticked me off so bad i never built another tank till this past year! I didn’t have a computer back then and the “net” wasn’t what it is today!LOL
Sorry to hear about your woes, Ga. Yeah those indy tracks can be a real headache. But I don’t have much choice since I find aftermarket tracks either hard to find here or too expensive for me.

You said it Dwight. Aftermarket tracks here (Phils.) cost the same as a good kit, sometimes even more. Need to go to HongKong or Singapore just to get a better deal (I think).

A lot of the guys on the forume love indy tracks I’m glad my Trumpeter Abrams came with both types!LOL
Now I’d like to meet the freakin’ genius who thought it was a “good idea” to make the microscopic signal and marker lights SEPARATE PARTS to put on the hummvee kits! It’s crazy! You get the same amount of detail by molding them in. Italeri at least molds the ones in on the rear. But why not ALL of them![:(!]
These parts are so tiny that you have to poke them with the tip of an X-acto knife blade in order to just to pick them up!
I understand your frustration with indy links, I’ve put several workable and non-workable sets on Panthers and Tigers where getting the proper sag is tricky, especially the non-workables. A jig is the way to go, and I assemble them on a strip of masking tape to hold them in shape on the running gear while the glue sets.
I seem to remember seeing a jig you can buy for indy tracks but cant remember the place on the internet to find them sorry not much help am i[banghead]
You’ve never experienced pain like putting together DML Sherman indies … exactly what Ga.modler is going through right now.

shermie and dwight hit it right on the head. i made good progess today with them all most got one full track put together. all i need to do is put the wheel bogies on and then the tracks. did take a break and paint the main body of the tank. but coming along very nice and slow.[:D][:D]
Well those DML Panther D tracks WERE onl y one piece per link,BUT, they all had 4 ejector pin marks per link, at 87 links per track, times two tracks equals…oh well I’d just as soon not count them!

I’ve experienced the pain if indies on many occasions…
But they do look so good when finished. IMHO, the one piece sets don’t even come close in realism.
But, having said that, on modern tanks with the side skirts, you really don’t need indies in most occasions.
That’s why I have not bought the Firefly. [V] Someday, when I’m retired (laughs hysterically), I might pick up that kit. Will Tamiya or Italeri tracks fit on the DML kits?
Well as for me, I will have a return bout with them 3 piece per link indies when I do my Firefly. I wonder how I will do this time.

So I actually have some free time this week, the first time since school stated, and I decided to get back to my M10. You guys probably don’t remember, but all I have to do to complete my AFV M10 for the Sherman group is finish the tracks. I made the mistake of getting MK tracks. NINE pieces links per track!!![:0][:(!][xx(] Can you believe that!!! At least there are no ejector pin marks to fill. There is still a lot of trimming, and sanding though. One side down… arg![|(]
…and that’s why i bought single piece vinyl tracks for my dragon firefly!!! (AFV Club from hannants in uk)[:D][:D][:D]
Not on the Firefly Vc or the M4A4 … the hulls are longer than the standard Sherman.
AFV Club makes a set of rubber band tracks that will be the right length.
I have not touched the set for my Sherman Calliope yet. I hope I can build them without to much problems.
