hello all, i’m getting ready to build the trumpeter p-40 in 1/32 scale. i’m using cutting edge decals for r.t. smith’s hawk, and model master enamels for the color. any help in getting the right shades of paint (especially the lower) would be a tremendous help. i have r.a.f sky type “f” ,dark earth and r.a.f. dark green, but from what i,m reading, these colors aren’t accurate. also who sells masks for avg cammo pattern? thanks.
If you’re doing an AVG bird, the Model Master dark earth & dark green are close enough, but the under sides should be Aircraft Grey. Cutting Edge @ Meteor Productions has masks designed for the AVG disruptive camo pattern.
Regards, Rick
thanks rick, i’m building this for my dad for christmas and i want to do it right. i just built a monogram p-40 to practice my technique,(weathering, airbrushing, decaling, etc.), hey, for nine bucks ya cant beat it! this was my first model in close to 25 years. the latent modeling bug has bit me hard! dan
Dan-remember that colour standards weren’t that stringent. Get close and go with your heart-and don’t forget weathering plays a part. Besides I feel your gift will be appreciated on heart and not accuracy.
Sincerely,
Dan Beedy
Dan,
Welcome to the forum from another bug victim ! There’s alot of us here.
It bit me harder the second time around too.
Chris
